Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide
Great post, thanks! Would be very cool to someday see an SPCR configurator w/ noise levels changing as you toggle components. I know it's not easy...things are nonlinear, etc...but still, would be cool and you have so much spectral data.

Re: Thermalright HR-02 Macho Quiet/Fanless Cooler
Installed one of these last week. Fantastic; just make sure you have that long screwdriver - the included "wrench" is useless, especially if you've already got the motherboard installed.

2nd to last paragraph of review should read:Lawrence Lee wrote:Seagate 7200.11 1.5TB: The Perfect Balance?
"(Western Digital now has a 2TB Green Power)"
...not:
"(Western Digital now has a 2GB Green Power)"
Was searching for "2GB Green Power" and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any hits!

PSU Review Request - Lian Li Silent Force 850W PSU
Hey Mike,
Just read this bit-tech review, but no quantitative performance on the noise:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/1 ... 850w-psu/1
Any chance we could get the full SPCR treatment?
David

ThinkPad Silent Owl Blade Fan for Santa Rosa: -3dB noise
Not sure if this belongs in Notebook Systems or Fans... Just ran across this article describing a novel (?) approach for lowering fan noise. The operating concept is to create a notch in the airflow, similar to what silences an owl's wings. Supposedly, this lowered the noise of the notebook fan by 3...

The guys at Anandtech recommended a second fan for extra cooling:

Would a Nexus 120mm cause problems being not matched in airflow?

Re: Intel quad-core?
(Maybe what I'm asking for is a "Model Zero" P180 quad-core w/ a 8800gts/x made as quiet as possible.) Yeah, that's what it sounds like. A whole 'nuther model. Probably needs a P190. Really? I'm currently running: p180 (w/ 1 nexus 120mm case fan) seasonic m12 700w E6400@3ghz (arctic silver; cnps950...

Intel quad-core?
Hey Mike, Great ideas! Three questions/requests for Model One Point One: I haven't seen any SPCR reporting of a quiet QX6700-based system yet...think you could you get said SPC w/in your noise spec? I understand the issues, but I'm in the market for a quiet workstation (hopefully no longer an oxymor...

478 equivalent for cheap/small/completely silent?
I'm building a new HTPC w/ the AOpen i945GTm-VHL mobo + Core Duo CPU (socket 478 HSF connector), and looking for a "completely silent" cooling solution like the one discussed in this article (but compatible w/ 478). Any suggestions?

for passive cooling the HR-01 would do better, not so tightly packed fins means airflow is better, the Ultra-90 is meant for active cooling. Could someone please tell me if the HR-01 will work w/ Yonah (socket 479)? The HR-01-775 version is supposed to work w/ 478, and I thought these two were very...
