Is this 120mm Yate Loon correctly undervolted?
I want to be sure I did this right - don't want to fry my power supply. I left the original yellow and black wires in the other molex connector for example's sake. I'll yank them if I've done this correctly. Is it OK to leave the 3-pin connector as it is? Will this give me 5v on this Yate Loon? http...

Undervolting fan to 5v without soldering or buying anything
I'm trying to undervolt a fan to 5v on a computer that does not allow any software undervolting. I don't want to solder or buy anything extra. Can I just yank the first two cables from the IDE connector to get down to 5v on a 120mm fan?

I'm using a 120mm Coolermaster fan @ 7V on my CPU/chipset and the 80mm Panaflo in my PSU is my only exhaust. So is the 120mm on your CPU's heatsink or is it a front intake? The Antec Tri-Cool will need to be replaced though. Fortunately I have a couple of 120mm Yate Loons to use. You can get kits t...

OK going with Meato and Stromgald’s recommendations for the NSK3300 I have added it and dropped the Solo and Seasonic PSU. I also added an internal enclosure (thanks Tibors) and the option of a SpinPoint (thanks stromgald): Sempron 64 3400 1.8 AM2 $70 ECS C51GM-M GeForce 6100 $60 Scythe Ninja $45 ...

Thanks for the helpful replies fellas. Looks like silent and value will win out over fanless. Here's the lowest speed AMD rig I'm looking at putting together: Sempron 64 3400 1.8 AM2 $70 ECS C51GM-M GeForce 6100 $60 Scythe Ninja $45 Corsair 2x512MB 240 pin $60 SpinPoint 60GB 2.5" $60 (what 2.5" to 3...

Fanless PC for the wife
My wife is using a five year old Dell and it’s on its deathbed. It’s also pretty loud. All that she uses it for is surfing and Word. I’m looking into building her a fanless PC. I’ve built a couple of computers but never anything fanless. Is it possible to use a passive CPU cooler, fanless PS...

Re: Antec P180B with high temps - CPU idles at 50c
taking the side off lowered the cpu and gpu temps by two degrees while the system temp increased by one degree.bob8701 wrote:one thing you can try is open the side panel and monitor the cpu idles/ load temp, if it is not drop more than 3 degrees, your set up is fine.

Re: Antec P180B with high temps - CPU idles at 50c
by the way, if Cool ‘n’ Quiet is enable, asus probe should show lower cpu voltage and speed. Thanks for your reply Bob. Yes, C'n'Q is enabled. you should worry about load temp more then idle temp, if load temp is not that high (less than 60 or so), the whole high temp may be wrong sensor readin...

How hot does the heatsink actually feel? Not very hot, but not cool either. I'd say an average warm. Definitely not as hot as my GPU feels after an hour of FEAR. I used to have an AMD64 3500 venice on this same mobo with these temps: CPU: 50 System: 50 GPU: 60 I think something's wrong with the mob...

Your VCore looks rather high (assuming your pc was idle when you took the screenshot). Is Cool&Quiet enabled? that's agood point ^ what does ASUS probe say? Nvidia Monitor, SpeedFan, Asus Probe and even the BIOS all reveal the same temps. I just ran a series of tests with: 1. Cool ‘n’ Quiet and...

Antec P180B with high temps - CPU idles at 50c
I bought a P180B, used AS5 on the X2 4600 and spent several hours on cable management, using it in my Main PC in it (see sig). I'm not overclocking anything. Here's my idle temps: CPU: 50c System: 40c GPU: 45c I'm using all three stock Antec 120mm TriCool fans, one at the top back, one at the blowho...

Wow thanks for the fast replies fellas. I just read that the Yate Loon D12SL-12 case fans, which can be found for $3.50, are the same fan as the Nexus (the Nexus is a rebranded Yate Loon), except that it spins at slightly faster speeds. Is this true? The lowest price I can find for the Scythes is $2...

Passive CPU cooling?
First time poster here. After reading MikeC's excellent review and cmcquistion's outstanding ideas in this huge thread I had to ask one question: Is it possible to get away with passive CPU cooling on an AMD64 3500 Venice using the Thermalright SI-120? I would use RMClock to undervolt the CPU. I wil...
