Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

Many thanks! What you say seems absolutely right. I'm going to get a Shadow Rock TF2 or Dark Rock TF cooler. I like the ninja style tower because with a side fan you can use the case fan as your cooler fan, so one less fan. But if they're not a full rpm I'm sure it will be fine. I will also take you...

Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

First post I said I'm going to build with one of my kids who chose the mobo & cpu. But doesn't really game. The ninja is 115mm tall (4.5inch) and it is only a few mm from the top of the case. There isn't any more room (without cutting a hole in the case which I'm not shy about and have already done ...

Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

Ha! That is a good story. My story is I just want to replace the cpu & mobo and keep the rest because it all fits nicely in my rack. And I'm that guy - you'll say there's no airflow and you'd be right and then I make it worse by keeping it in this box at the bottom of my rack. But it's worked ok so ...

Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

I'm hoping that cooling will be easier. The 5600x has a TDP of 65w and my old i5-3570 has a TDP of 77w. Faster, 2 more cores, more threads. Seems like more performance for less power. But your first post was that you wouldn't go for the 5600x - what's your thoughts on the performance/power compromis...

Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

Thank you! The shadow rock would probably be fine. I'm doing mostly music production but a little bit of video editing, so want to speed up my rendering. But for most of what I do my current set up is fine: i5-3570 and gigabyte GA-Z77M, with a fanless AMD 5750 card. I've run that with one fan for ye...

Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

I'm thinking: ASUS Prime B450M-A/CSM AM4 Micro-ATX Motherboard and Ryzen 5 5600x CPU. Those are chosen by one of my kids after a fair amount of internet research, and we're going to build together! So I'm keen to go with those even if they're not perfect. But the Ryzen 5600x looks like a pretty good...

Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?

Hi Folks, After a good run I’ve decided it’s upgrade time. I’d like to reuse my Antec Fusion case. But of course the old Scythe Ninja Mini won’t fit a new mobo with a different cpu socket. Does anyone know of a good 115mm high cooler for the Fusion? Possibly I could invent some other way of attachin...

Re: Intel vs Gigabyte Z77 board and speedfan?

Just thought I'd leave a note that I went with the Gigabyte board and the system 1 fan works fine with speedfan. Don't know about the others because I don't have any pwm fans but no reason to think they wouldn't work too.

Re: Intel vs Gigabyte Z77 board and speedfan?

Thanks for your replies. I'm still deciding. I think: Intel: great control with supplied software. CPU fan must be PWM (my fans are Nexus three pins). Gigabyte: Three pin control on CPU fan and sys1 fan. Sys 2 & 3 PWM only. Looks like people have had some trouble setting up the Gigabyte boards with ...

Intel vs Gigabyte Z77 board and speedfan?

Hi all, It's upgrade time here. I've been thinking of buying the Intel DZ77GA-70K because the review here shows it has 4 controllable fan headers that read all sensors and works with speedfan: http://www.silentpcreview.com/Intel_DZ77GA-70K . But my neighbour who is helping me suggests a cheaper Giga...

Re: Will HFX EF28 power my rig?

I've been useing the EF28 to power the system in my sig since 2007, which would use much more power - 5750GPU, old Q9300CPU and 2 HDD! I haven't stressed the GPU on purpose but I have run it with prime95 at 100% cpu and with my audio software fully loaded. No problems, no coil whine, no reason to th...

Re: New DAW build for music production

Another PSU option is the mCubed 280w external. I think mCubed products don't get much of a run here because they're not widely distributed in the US but for you in the Eurozone they're a good option. I have been using the EF28 psu for a few years and it hasn't let me down: EF28 link

Re: New DAW build for music production

Maybe for your drives get 7200rpm notebook drives and put them in scythe quiet drives. In my experience that is a lot quieter than soft mounting or suspending a desktop drive - I have done both and it is really hard to hear a notebook drive inside a scythe box. You can generally get notebook drives ...

Having discovered the Audioengine wireless adapter through this article, I bought one today (the new W3). I have tried a number of wireless products and found they had noise issues. These, however, are a really good product. I was prepared to be disappointed but I'm not! I wouldn't call myself an au...

If you're only going to use the fan underneath the Noctua, can you swap the clips around and put the 120mm fan at the bottom? That would be quieter... [edit]: oh, I see in the review you can put the 120mm fan below.

"In Forums" new look has negative effect on viewing habits

Hi there SPCR, I thought I'd let you know that the new look of the "In Forums" list has had the effect that my visits to the site have reduced from a quick look most days to not bothering for about three weeks now. Mostly when surfing, I used to open SPCR and glance down the list to see if anything ...

What's really bad is that on the front page the SPCR forums list now separately lists every new reply made to a post, rather than just when a new post is made. It used to be that you could have a look and see at a glance what topics were being posted about. But at the moment, for example, four of th...

Arrggh: going crazy trying to get three monitors from HD5750

Hi there all, I would like to run a projector and two monitors from my PC. Would like to do it from one card because it would be quieter and use less power. And I have only 1 PCIe slot anyway. After much research, I bought a powercolor passive HD5750 and a monitor with a display port input (because ...

The Powercolor 5750 can be had in Oz if you buy from Hong Kong. After selling my Gigabyte I got a Powercolor from a mob called linke

About $190AUD + postage.

I haven't installed it yet, but it arrived safe and sound and took about a week, so they seem like a good mob.

Bling makes fans quieter - Nexus D12SL-12WL ???

After a couple of years my Noctuas are starting to whine, so I thought I'd try a Nexus D12SL-12, since it's on the recommended list. When I looked it up, I noticed that the specs on the Nexus site say that the version with the hard clear plastic and the blue LEDs is 18db at 1m, as opposed to 23db fo...
