Here's another company that makes custom enclosures using aluminum profile and cut panels. http://www.frontpanelexpress.com/en/news/home.html They even have their own design software with built-in pricing. The prices looks pretty reasonable compared to some of the waterjet and laser cutting services...

So I have updated my design based on the feedback that the Corsair H50 isnt exactly quiet or performant. http://i.imgur.com/ToFsil.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ToFsi.jpg Am designing for a big tower cooler in the box. So here's the question: Given the powerful 2x140mm intake fans, and given the 2x120mm fa...

The Buckeye people quoted me roughly $300 for a 14x12x7 inch case. And that included a motherboard tray, 140mm cut outs, power switch, etc. I bet? hehe The corner extrusions are insanely expensive, the Type35 is $50.25 per foot. :x I could mill a 1-inch square bar for waaaay less. I'm sure I could ...

Those corner extrusions are awesome. You've just expanded my build options! :D Another source for these corner profiles: http://www.industrial-enclosures.com/html/enclosure-profile.html Looks like you can get the corner profiles with the internal slots and also without the internal slots. The drawi...

Why the Corsair H50? We've been testing it -- it's neither very quiet nor that good. The supplied fan is ok but the pump is real buzzer. Performance wise it is below the top, though perhaps in a case with the radiator moved to a vent opening, it might be a bit better. I dunno, for quiet, this is no...

Been looking at Buckey Shapeform XPAND-A® Series Boxes. Have to see what they charge though. Uses some extruded aluminum corners, with heavy duty front and back plates. http://buckeyeshapeform.thomasnet.com/item/aluminum-electronics-enclosures/xpand-a-custom-aluminum-enclosures/6eb1212a06ano? http:...

If it was me I'd ditch the side and PSU holes; add an exhaust fan on the back; mount the heatsink/radiator on one of the front intake fans; and use solid .10-inch thick aluminum. Re-did the design based on some of your suggestions. https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BzKOzWafGYiDZDQyNGFhZDQtNDlkMS00YW...

looking for comments on a case design

Hi, I have been looking to build a compact mATX case specially for use with a Corsair H50 cooler. The requirements for the case are to contain an mATX socket 1366 motherboard with an i7-920. Storage requirements are for a slim-dvd drive, and two 2.5" drives. A modestly sized video card needs to fit ...

What about a custom built case with 2x140mm intake fans, and no exhaust fans - instead there are a number of vents and slots for exhaust air to exit the box.

Re: scratchbuilding a case

For the drives and mobo tray. You can mount the HDD's in elastic so you can make your own little bracket. And the 5,25" drives and mobotray: go to the trash. There are probably some old computers. You can get them out of an old PC case. I figure I can mount the HDDs against one of the side panels u...

scratchbuilding a case

Been looking at the various mATX case options out there, and I really like the Antec 3480, but it isnt quite right - theres things I want from it that I cant mod into it. Other cases kind of have some appeal, but they all look so ugly - the aesthetic of the contemporary gamer is for fins and wings a...

The solution is perfectly obvious. What you need to do is remove all of the sidewalls from the PC and suspend it in a pendulum arrangement. As it silently swings backwards and forwards, it moves through fresh air, thus cooling it. A small linear motor under the pendulum gives the PC a small boost ea...
