Re: Passive 6850
I've got one also. Zipped a low-speed, inaudible Noctua to it. Temp never exceeds 60C, even when playing Crysis, incredible. I'm very happy with it.

Re: SpeedFan with Asrock Z68 Extreme
With reference to that, it looks like a bit odd to me that the "PWM Mode 3" under "Advanced Tab" is still set to "Smart Fan IV" (and not "Manual" or "Software controlled"). If I set it to 'manual', it can only be controlled ... manually :) There is no 'Software controlled' option. You may also link...

Re: SpeedFan with Asrock Z68 Extreme
Thanks for the reply, qfs :) I connected the heatsink fan to CHA3, and now it works almost perfect. This is how I configured SF: http://img.techpowerup.org/111020/speedfan%201.jpg http://img.techpowerup.org/111020/speedfan%202.jpg http://img.techpowerup.org/111020/speedfan%203.jpg http://img.techpow...

Re: Fanspeed with Asrock Z68 Extreme
Yeah, forgot to mention (will include it in my sig). A Noctua S12B as a case fan and a Noctua P12 for the heatsink. Both have 3-pin connectors.
Btw, the BIOS gives the right rpm.

SpeedFan with Asrock Z68 Extreme
I just built a system with an Asrock Z68 Extreme3 mobo (see my sig). Now I want to automatically control the speeds of the case fan and the CPU fan, both depending on the CPU temp. So I connected them to the CPU1 and CPU2 headers. With Speedfan I can only control the speed of the CPU2 fan - and only...

Hello, The HD3870X2 consumes 177W max according to the same page. It is likely, that such a system would draw ~250watts at peak. Depending on how long/often it would be running at peak power usage. I would suggest that an Enermax Modu82+ 425 would be the best candidate. Neil, that's one 3870X2. So ...

Andy, yes you're probably right, atm 2 x 3870X2 makes no sense. Truth is, I just bought one 3870X2. Now I have a Seasonic 430, and it doesn't even have a single 6 pin PCI-E connector, while the card needs 2 of them, so I have to upgrade the PSU anyway. So to be prepared to go crossfireX, I made the ...

Neil, thanks for the link. It shows that indeed the sweet spot for a PSU is about 50%. Judging from this chart , one 3870X2 takes about 200W under load (compare the 3870X2 with the 3870 idle). So two of them results in a system that maxes out to about 500W. But admittedly, most of the time it will s...

Zalman ZM850-HP any good?
It is rated as excellent at TechPowerUp. Look at the noise level at the last page!
But this is about the only review I can find about it..
Does anyone know about this PSU?

Capacity & Efficiency
Throughout a lot of threads and reviews, the topic of the needed capacity (wattage) is discussed. Most of the times it is stated that anything >600W is ridiculous. But in this thread (2nd post) someone says that a PSU is most efficient at about 50%. He also points out that a PSU only takes as much p...

How to adjust Nexus fan speeds on a P5W?
Hi I have an Asus P5W mb, with one fan attached to the CPU fan header, one exhaust fan to the PWR1 header, and one in the lower chamber (P180) to the CHA1 header (all Nexus). However, I can't seem to find a way to adjust their speeds with Fanspeed or any other tool. A complication is that there's so...

I'm about to install a Ninja on an Intel 6600, using AS5. If I understand well, there are two different methods, see poll. Which one do you use?

This is the lower HD cabinet from a P180. Using 2cm wide, 2x40cm flat sewing elastic. It is attached to the HD's with 5.25'' bay-slider-screws; just made a small hole in the elastic with a sharp object first. It is fixed very secure, because the elastic tightens itself around the screwthread. The lo...

Protection against lightning?
Hi there.
I just bought a Seasonic S12 430. The box says: over power+voltage protection, short circuit protection.
Is this an adequate protection against lightning etc.? Does it make sense to buy an additional fused power box or something?

Was the zip-tie method thread yours? I couldn't find it anymore. I was inspired by it, thanks.kogi wrote:Great idea,
I still think the zip-tie bolt is easier to use though.
kogi
My concern with the zip-tie is that the plastic is too hard, and as a result passes on vibrations if it touches the case.

Ingenious! how tight is the sewing elastic? Thanks. Not very tight. You can easily pull back the fan 5cm. It was easy to double-knot the elastic at the outside grommets. The idea is that there is no direct contact between the elastic and the case. Any vibrations from the elastic should be dampened ...

Replace the NB cooler by a Thermalright 05. Nice rig btw. For the rest (CPU, videocard) I would wait. Your system is just too good to upgrade now. With the same money that buys you a DX10 and a Kensington next month, you can buy much more in 6 months. Btw, why do you have a LAN PCI-card, instead of ...

Re: Dead silent PC (and I mean DEAD = 0 dB)
... First dual-core isn't very power efficient for anything not optimized for SMP. For example: contrary to current marketing, gaming is best on a faster, lower-heat single core processor. The few SMP aware titles aren't really all that SMP optimized. However, if most of what you do is encoding/dec...

What is the best SATA Spinpoint model?
I'm looking for a nice boot & apps drive, 160 - 300 GB. Price is not an issue, speed & silence are.
So much to choose from: HD160JJ, 2004C, SP2504C, HD300LJ, HD400LJ, HD401LJ
Anyone compared some of those side by side, or read something about the differences (no. platters, speed, sound)?
