Please post drives you feel are too noisy for comfort
i will start in the 2.5" category:
Samsung MP0804H 80GB @5400rpm: seek is almost inaudible , possibly drowned by the spindle noise! It has a pink noise sort of sound, almost like a 40mm fan on steroids...

Re: Arctic Cooling - Silencer 64 Ultra TC
...should i lock the voltage to 12 V in bios and leave the fan to its own devices? If you're happy with the noise level and the CPU temperatures, leave it alone! :o I was not happy with the temps. But now i have clipped the sensor. It runs nice and quiet until the core temp rise above 30C ( i dont ...

Arctic Cooling - Silencer 64 Ultra TC
This cooling solution has a 92 mm fan with internal temperature control (TC stands for this ) I can see a thermal sensor wedged between the fins of the heatsink. Now i am using bios speed control and this fan messes with it i think, it hardly ever spins up above 1000rpm which is the minimum rating f...

inspired by my success with the silicone tube, i made another setup in my sonataII with a rather noisy Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB this time i attached the motherboard studs in the disk itself, securing them with an inserted large-head screw and a tightly tisted copper wire acting as a hose clamp. I ...

This is a quick and easy hdd suspension that made a tremendous difference compared with the old rigid mount! parts: - 50cm of 8mm silicone tube - parts from an old nec drive - 2 motherboard studs Why ? Slilicone tube is flexible and non-slip, the drive sits securely yet has no metal-metal connection...

upside down: downsides?
Will the hdd suffer in the long run if i suspend it upside down, i want it more centered in the airflow from the front. I thought hanging the disk upide down by the bottom screwholes using "suspension tubes"* would make it cooler and quieter, as the standard disk mount in this chassie is 5 cm above ...

i have not actually MEASURED those voltages, no... But the 5v drives the cpu fan, which is spinning, and i hooked a 12v fan to a molex, and this fan also spun. I have a microstar 6330 mobo with "diagnostic leds". All four leds are red, which would indicate "faulty cpu or cmos battery flat" the latte...

is my duron toast now ?
Hi, i am experimenting with a quiet computer built on a "spitfire" duron 700 i put a thermaltake tr2 m3 on it and hooked it up to the 5 volt line on a molex. quiet indeed ! The computer is running zenwalk linux, and using lm_sensors i thought the temps were un-alarming (steady at 44C) Some hours lat...
