I've been using the Thermalright HR-01 Plus (w/1366 adaptor) with the Thermalright air duct connected to the rear case outlet for my new i920. Results are good so far. I've currently got it 'undervolted' to 1.18 vcore, but overclocked to 3.6Ghz, and it seems prime95 stable so far (4 hour stress test...

If done properly, copper. If not done properly, stick to air cooling and forget watercooling altogether. Regardless of advertising claims, the fact is copper is a better heat conductor and superior for cooling so you're either comparing unfairly or doing something wrong. I suggest you have a look at...

As previously mentioned, it does look like the heat "somehow" needs to get off the fins, liquid metal or no liquid metal. So it may not be as effective as even full watercooling much less a TEC or similar. I'm hoping to be wrong however... But even if it's "almost" as good as proper watercooling wit...

Yeah I think I should get a fan for the CPU heatsink. With the fan duct, it will be almost like a push pull situation so hopefully I can keep rpm's low. Going to connect the two fans to a fan controller and see how low I can go and keep a stable overclock... Think I should be able to get away with a...

If you go for high powered components and a "real" overclock over a prolonged period of time, then water is better for overall noise, stability and cooling if done right . So yes - I'm happy that my current PC can be overclocked and and kept massively stressed 24/7 over a week and still stay stable ...

Fan speed needed for overclocked i7 920 + HR-01 Plus + duct
Hello, Looking at putting together a new build. CPU will be the i7 920 with an average overclock, perhaps around 3.6Ghz. For a change, going air cooling this time but would still like to keep it very quiet. Looking at getting the HR-01 Plus, the 120mm Fan Duct for HR-01-775, and the LGA1366 Bolt-Thr...

Resting Hard Drives on Tygon?
I'll be getting a new case soon and unfortunately it does not have enough room to either suspend the hard drives using elastics nor put them into 5.25" sound absorbing enclosures. To minimise sound, one option is that I rest the hard drives on top of something that absorbs vibrations. Any views or a...

Ok, if the best solutions provided by manufacturers are mediocre amateurish solutions 5 years old, then I suppose have to improvise like everyone else. I've decoupled my Scythe Quiet Drives from the standard mountings and have them sandwiched between layers of acouti foam. Pressure from the foam hol...

You are right, for the traditional silence enthusiast, there is no need for innovation and more technologically advanced kit. There is no need as you simply use low powered, cheaper kit and can achieve silence that way. So why innovate? Mind you, there will be innovation that benefits silence enthus...

While SPCR are may consider $300 to be a lot for making their overall PC more quiet, graphics enthusiasts will s...

Don't think acoustic technology for PC cases has really advanced much mainly because people want silence but don't want to pay for it. Premium brands like Bang and olufsen or Bose do not yet exist for PC cases. Well, 6-7 years back it simply wasn't possible to get a "silent" case, it simply did not...

Lian Li PC-S80 has advantages over the Antec. I found the Antec P180 too noisy even after modifications. The fans are completely unbaffled, air flow is handled just like any normal case. The Lian Li takes care of this, but still makes some noise, although less than the P180 (which I've now thrown aw...

reviewed here . if it really is only vibrational noise that is left, then try soft-mounting (ie either on foam or suspended). That's from back in 2002? If the new copper version that costs 3 times as much is the same, then forget it as vibration noise is what I'm trying to eliminate. I might just t...

Interesting - thanks for this. I'm going to be cautious because the term "quiet" is subjective. Hopefully this product is quiet by SPCR standards. HDD enclosures / $175USD Smart Drive Classic Cooper any good
Rebuilding my system and am looking for ways to reduce disk noise. Currently using Scythe Quiet Drives, but can still hear the vibration noise and my tolerance for noise is low. Is the "Smart Drive Classic Cooper" any good? I'm looking for results, so price is secondary to results, but for $175USD I...

WR304: I agree that at low power levels, air and water are about the same, and the extra effort involved with water is a waste. There's no point in even considering water here. Aris (on your last email): using a D5 and it's silent. Silent meaning that it's more quiet than nexus fans and cannot be heard from outside the case. Don't know about the eheim, but the Laing pumps are noisy if you don't isolate them. If you do, then they are very quiet, especially the D5 at setting...
