Sounds like it's working exactly as it should.
The drive tray is spring loaded and it just pops a bit out when you press the button.
You have to close it yourself.

It's the same kind of drive that is used in most notebooks.

I have a Noctua NH-C12P on my e8500. It's fanless and the height is ~11cm from the mb tray to the top of the heatsink.
It's definitely enough to keep my cpu at reasonable temperatures.
It would work even better in your case if the psu fan is right next to it.

Where did you buy your picopsu ? ive tryed a few places, but they are all out of stock.... I bought it used from huuto.net so I can't say much about this.. LinITX seems to have them in stock. The Dell Mini 9, Mini 10 and Mini 12 are all fanless netbook laptops. A Dell sales associate just told me that all of their notebooks and minis have fans. There are plenty of dissection pics on the net where you can see the internals of the minis. At least I can't see fans here. Perhaps the Dell sa...

Again, a small update. This isn't related to the computer itself, but the keyboard. About 3-4 years ago I bought Hiper Clavier aluminum keyboard. It was fantastic and beautiful. The only bad thing about it was the sound that the keys made. It was sort of hollow and somewhat unpleasant. Last year I t...

A small update. The quadro seemed a little slow so I decided to overclock it a bit. Couldn't find any software that could support it or Win7, so I just modified the bios. Original idle / load (MHz) GPU: 208 / 459 Shader: 416 / 918 Memory: 100 / 400 First I tried to OC and UC it, but the idle clocks ...

Thanks for all the comments. What's the story on those speaker stands? I made them couple of years ago when I bought those speakers. Things went sort of the same way as with this computer. I made plans and then did it differently anyways. I bought a 1m x 17cm x 2,8mm piece of wood and cut it couple ...

Thanks! Have you considered/tried a smaller still case volume - perhaps using a smaller fan and placing it above the motherboard backplate - or was that not a priority? My original plan was actually a smaller case with 120mm fan at the top. That would have been around 20cm x 20cm x 16cm or so. At s...

had you thought of using a slipstream as the exhaust fan? Either a slipstream or a Nexus fan. Both are fine. I think I'll first just wait and see if I can get something for free before I buy it. If you're willing to take requests, could you show a one or two more pictures of the insides and another...

It's pci-e 1x. http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/2571/nvs290f.jpg You can see the DMS-59 -connector in the picture showing the back/bottom of the case. It's almost impossible to put it there because of the limited space. I have to take that ~3cm wide aluminum bar off if I want to take the card off or...

M-ITX DIY case with 120mm fan / now with HD3450 mod!

Whoa, this got longer than I thought. I used to have a fast computer that was absolutely silent. Then it got boring. There was nothing else to do with it so I started to plan my next computer. It had to be M-ITX with picopsu and C2D processor and I wanted to do the case myself. Why M-ITX? Because th...

I have the same fan as a case fan. It was far too loud with one of the adapters and it didn't even start with the other. I connected it directly to the PSU. It runs @5v so it's about 600rpm. It is not that loud any more but it definitely makes some noise. I was sure it was my HDD vibrating but the n...

The ambient temp is about 22-23 °C CPU gets to ~60°C, probably more if GPU is also stressed. I have made a duct for CPU heatsink from a piece of cardboard. Can't say any specific numbers about GPU load temperatures but it's somewhere near 70. That's just an estimate. HDD is completely separated fr...

I have only one fan running about 500rpm in my Silverstone TJ09 case. CPU, GPU and PSU are passively cooled. When you are cooling your hole computer with only one fan, you definitely want to control the airflow as much as possible. All of the intakes have to be at places where they are needed the mo...

Still no change in temperatures. Can't say anything about the power consumption...

I have had the Asus EAH4850 for a day now. The fan spins really slowly on idle. When I ran 3DMARK06 it still didn't seem to spin faster. At least I didn't spot any difference. This could be a problem. GPU-Z shows 500MHz for GPU core and 750MHz for memory when on idle. They sure seem a bit high... I'...
