Re: Xeon E3-1230 V2
Personally i would go with server board with xeon cpu, but that just me, supermicro and tyan would be my top pics for it. If you want a none server board that has on board audio and that supports xeon, that will also allow to use the built in GPU (like P3000 on the Xeon e3-1235) is the ASUS P8B WS ...

Re: Xeon E3-1230 V2
I didn't in any way claim that Xeons are inferior to consumer Core i CPUs. In fact I believe it's quite the contrary. I was merely questioning the prudence in pairing a workstation/server CPU with a consumer motherboard since you (to a certain extent) lose out on the strengths of the Xeon CPU, namel...

Re: Xeon E3-1230 V2
I'm not sure why you would want to look at an Ivy Bridge-based Xeon and then pair it with a consumer motherboard. You'll lose the features that differentiate the Xeon series from the regular Core i series, namely ECC memory support. You might as well go for the equivalent consumer version. Of course...

I contacted Lian Li about the missing dust filters and also the cheap feet (unlike the originally shown "hifi-type" feet) on the PC-B10. I was told that all these things were rectified in models manufactured after August 2009. Hope that helps. By the way, I actually find the PC-P50 very intriguing a...

<OT> I know, but I don't really like any of them except for the new X1000. And that one would rock with an added door. Mailed Lian Li about it and they'll look into it. In the mean time I'm contemplating the Lancool K56. I've this idea that it could be quiet with the mesh front if there's no front f...

Great looking case with one serious flaw (for me). With a depth of about 65 cm it's about 15 cm too deep for me. :( Not sure where you got that number, but the FT02 will be about 61.6cm deep. Sorry, this is still too deep for you. :( I stand corrected! Don't know where I read about the 65 cm. :oops...

PSU placement in case
Of late the PSU mounting position has moved from the top to the bottom in many cases. A trend that probably started with the Antec P180. My question is fairly simple, although the answer(s) might not be: How important for cooling, noise and so forth is the bottom PSU mounting position in a case? Is ...

I doubt that site is very reliable. It reads like an advertisement, and then there are gems like Durch spezielle Bauteile und eine neue Motorengeneration soll es weder elektrische noch magnetische Geräusche geben. which translates roughly (too early for me to worry about style) to Electrical and m...

German c't magazine (issue 15/2009 if I recall correctly) tested them against fans from Scythe, Noctua and NoiseBlocker amongst others and they came out on top (they also had good things to say about the Sharkoon Silent Eagle fans). I'm latching on to this thread since I also look at one of the new "Dragonlord" cases for my next build. As far as I understand it the case is supposed to block EMI coming from the inside of the case and not vice versa. I also remember having heard that open cases or even cases with windows are illegal in several countries because they do not properly contain EMI from the components (most of it comes f...

Thanks for the suggestion! Ideally, one would get a "spare" P182 top panel and use that instead, but when is anything really ideal.Olle P wrote:You're correct. My "plug" is a plate of 4mm clear acrylic cut to the size and shape of a 12cm fan frame, which I've mounted there instead of the fan.

Thanks for your input! I was planning on ditching the TriCools anyway. And blocking off the top exhaust is a given as well. By the way, am I correct in assuming that the round cut-out is directly under the arrowshaped plastic grille and removing the grille leaves with more or less a hole in the top ...

Hi, Putting the fans in the middle is (IMO) the right thing acoustically, but it does increase the length... I do plan an shorter version with 2 x 140mm fans close to the front, and that would be well over 5 cm shorter. The front door opens along either of the long edges - the top (in RackMount/Des...

Thanks again to both of you! I was considering blocking off the top exhaust (both for the P182 and the P183) and putting 1 fan in front of the graphics card. Might even remove the upper HDD cage if it can be done while still being able to mount that fan. Possibly a fan in the lower compartment as we...

Sorry to slightly hi-jack this thread, but Lian-Li AND silence afficionados seem to be posting here.
My question is simple: How would I go about silencing this?
Reply by PM would be nice so as not to "polute" this thread further.

Thanks a lot for your insight and comments! :) Is the air flow problem really that bad with the P182? I thought that maybe heat problems would only occur with really hot hardware like e.g. a SLI or CrossFire configuration. Have a look at Lancool and in particular the PC-K10 . The Lancool series are built around a SECC steel structure and so should have less vibration noise than Lian Li's all-aluminum cases.
