Thanks for the input whiic! makes for an easy comparison! Vibration noise is usually easier to correct than whining and hissing, so I think I'll go with the Samsung. I didn't include the KS because I can't seem to find it around anymore... and for some reason the Hitachi drive is about $50-$80 more ...

Best 500GB: WD5000AAKS vs HD501LJ
I'm reading many conflicting reviews in regards to each drive, here and on other forums and review sites.
A poll should help solve the battle between the two 500GB leaders.
I'll buy whichever wins this poll... please consider overall noise, heat, performance and reliability when you vote!
Thanks!

If you're considering overclocking, go for DDR2-800.
The 533 will give fine performances at stock speeds, but it will be your first limit when you start overclocking.
I've been using THIS with my E6600 and it runs easily at 860MHz.

hello again mcgerald i'm back home now and have regained access to my new rig. i did the procedure i proposed earlier and the boot wasn't faster... POST message is still there. If I disable JMicron in BIOS like you did, then the message obviously goes away and boot is much faster (10s less for me), ...

Numbers show the Thermalright offers superior cooling than the Ninja in almost all situations, sure, but the difference is very small... I decided to go with the Ninja because it's lighter, and has most of its weight and the bottom. I considered the Ultra120, but I gotta say I was a little worried a...

You should be able to just go into Device Manager in Windows, and find JMicron listed in the controllers. Just right click it and hit "update driver", then select "not this time">"install from a list or specific location">"don't search". It should provide you a list including the JMicron controller ...

^^ he said it right... normal stuff from the JMicron controller... If it's really bugging you, you can uninstall the JMicron drivers and install Windows own standard IDE driver. I haven't had the chance to do it myself (i built my rig last weekend and i've been away from home since), but that should...

If the air coming out through the PSU is cool and the fan is ramping up, then it looks like there might be something wrong with your PSUs temp sensor? Maybe you could open up your PSU and look where the probe is? It might be stuck somewhere it shouldn't be... perhaps on a heatsink or something that ...

if you go see the thread to which i linked, you'll se pics of the inside of my case. that's the best wiring i could do. I can't say if you'll need a fan in the lower chamber to cool down your 2 HD because i haven't tried it. Best bet would be to leave it there at first and see how the temps are. If ...

Have a look at my build... I have the same case, OC E6600, and a passive VGA.
At an ambient temp of 22C, 2 fans (1@800RPM, 1@1000RPM) are enough to keep every component in very safe tempereatures.
If you only use 1 hard drive, the fan in the lower compartment is absolutely useless.

Looks like a very good setup! 2300USD seems quite expensive to me, but then again I don't know how much stuff cost in UK. A couple suggestions: - I would go for the Seasonic or Corsair PSU instead of Enermax. - I haven't heard it myself, but apparently the Seagates run pretty loud and hot. WD SE16 a...
