I also find the hx520 sound signature the most prominent in my system, a rattling type of noise. The SPCR recording appears to be the same

If a fanswap isn't to complicated I might be doing that.

TJ08 Core2 - HR-01

Lots of pictures, maybe someone will find them interresting ;) P5B-vm Lacks 3-pin fan control HX 520 Not as silent as i thought, the machinery like sound you can hear in spcr's recording is noticeable. I'm thinking about switching it for a Neo HE or a passive silverstone. 8800 GTS Not bad, mainly sw...

Seems like a hardware limitation, P5B-VM can only do PWM fan control.
What's strange is that in the bios it says Q-fan only apply to CPU- and SYS- fan, but the latter being a three pin always run the same speed.

There's some flapping in the noise signature of my HX520, I'll see tomorrow if it's coming from the fan.

Corsair HX 520/620 W is a nice option, silent by SPCR standards and plenty of power.

They say the stock cooling is silent, but i guess it's not inaudible. If there's some way in software to turn down the fan to really low, i think you could get it inaudible in 2D. Looking at these pictures, the stock heatsink is fairly big, an option might be to remove the cover and put a larger fan...

Just put my system together. I've experienced some moments of pure silent bliss. Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with my Corsair HX520 as it is RIDICULOUSLY loud. Not the fan, either. There's a high pitched coil whine. I'm noise intolerant, but this would piss anyone off. It's really bad....

Looking at this the 7200.9 is louder at idle,

But seek noise is supposed to be noticeably louder than other SATA drives.

Would a 1 mm taller cooler fit? :)

HR-01 159,5 mm
