Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide

From a power efficiency point of view, the ideal PSU would be no more than ~400W, but we don't know of any fan cooled PSUs of that rating which stay super quiet at ~260W load (the approx output of the PSU at 290W AC). A Seasonic X560W would have been better than the X650; alas we didn't have one. I...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide

Great timing, I was about to post questions for something like this on the board. One thing, I would like to know, though. :?: Why do you use a 650W PSU when the maximum AC power draw was 290W? The reason I'm asking is because I wonder whether I can continue using my oldish Seasonic 380W PSU for a s...

Re: HDPLEX H10 Fanless microATX Case

I skimmed the review, so I may have missed the answer to this, but -- is there an option to use heatpipes to cool a high powered video card using the left side heatsink? afaik, no. I don't think any high power vga card -- say 150W tdp or maybe even 125W -- could be cooled this way. Perhaps a 100w c...

I don't get, why they recommend a 400W power supply for a 40W card? Sure the rest of the system won't need so much power if it matches these "lowly" graphic cards.

Are we going to get a 5770 review or maybe even a shootout between different card coolers anytime soon?

Keep up the good work!

Interesting article, good to see how the stock heatsinks really perform.

At how many RPM does the fan run when set to Q(uiet)? Did I miss that in the article somewhere?

The cheaper Accelero L2 should fit. I read a review on a German website where they did that mod because they were quite unsatisfied with the stock cooler. Can't find the link though, pretty sure I got it from this board though, so maybe if you look at all the 5770 threads you'll find it.

I always like it if you review things like notebooks and not just fans and heatsinks (although I read all of those reviews as well). Keep on diversifying! SPCR is the hardware site I trust most. Would it make sense to use the slot blower as an intake to blow cool air directly on a passive graphics card?
I've always thought, that placing exhaust fans at the top of the case made more sene, it aiding natural convection and all.

As always, nice review!

The Coolermaster looks like a good case to me, but the price-difference is marginal. Comparing prices in Germany, the Coolermaster is just about 10-15€ cheaper than a Antec Solo. The build in suspension and better build quality of the Solo is definitely worth 10 Euros. They should sell the Sileo f...

The major source of a blunt object like a car is still form drag. It depends not on the size of the object but on its proportions. Cars, in contrast to airplanes, are still rather short compared to their width and height. Up to 80% of the total drag of a car is actually form drag. It's not just the ...

What they write about laminar and turbulent boundary layers is correct, but they are exaggerating the seperation of the flow with a laminar boundary layer.
The flow will seperate above the windshield but it will reattach a little later on the roof, so the wake won't be as big as they show.
