Would 4x250GB drives served as individual shares, and set to spin-down when inactive, be quieter than the same four drives shared as a RAID1 array? - or a dual 500GB set?

I'm kind of unhappy with the WD1600AAJS )160GB single-platter) I received last month - will probably just bite the bullet and get a Scythe Quiet Drive enclosure for it.

A Seasonic 330W unit fits nicely in my MicroFly - the positioning of its cables (on the right, when looking at its back) works well for this case (another supply with the cables on the left crams up against the 5.25" bays).

That makes sense.

Found a recent thread on CF-RAID:

Why not? If IDE channel throughput is higher that drive speed (and certainly it is for CF cards - 100MB/s vs 20MB/s), then you can read/write data faster in RAID0 configuration. My understanding is that, on a single IDE channel, only one device (master or slave) can be accessed at a time, which is ...

Dansdata recently did a column on this subject:

In short: it's feasible.

Also, I came across a SATA CF adapter:

I think, generally, when people want to boot off of present-day flash devices, they generally try to minimize read/write cycles, since flash ram can withstand only a limited amount of these (~10,000 is a popular figure). As far as RAIDing CF cards - those two-card CF->IDE adapters are just one-chann...

Tower coolers

After close study of various folks pictures, I took a guess that the Thermalright Ultra-90 would fit on my Asus M2NPV , mounted in the Ultra Microfly case (1" longer QPack clone). It fits, but just barely. The machine is fully built out yet, but BIOS temperatures for my X2 3800 were about 50C at idl...
