Agree with this - just use a cable tie or some wire or something and attach it to a support above the cooler.

Re: Ninja SNCJ-1000 for socket 1155 with Noctua backplate -

I have the Ninja Revision B, I think I'm going to try that backplate and screws from Sidewinder. It looks like I won't need to do anything else. I do have an 1155 AsRock board with the 775 holes (H77M), but no way am I using the plastic pushpins, and I don't think a 775 backplate will work properly ...

Re: Ninja SNCJ-1000 for socket 1155 with Noctua backplate -

The original Ninja had a 775 fitting derived from the 478 fitment. Later Ninjas, such as yours, used the standard 775 push-pins. You should find that if you remove the push-pins from the 775 fixing, there is enough room to use the bolts, thumbscrews and backplate from the Noctua NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mou...

Re: Ninja SNCJ-1000 for socket 1155 with Noctua backplate -

Is it possible to do a similar thing with the Ninja Rev. B (SCNJ-1000P) or is the mounting too different?

I have this: http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cpu/0 ... 1100p.html

Maybe using the socket 478 clip from scythe and the noctua backplate?

I would not go with the Walmart one - I don't like the original Phenom processors.

That build you had from Newegg was good, but I would go with a core i5 or something else to keep the price down! Or go with a quad-core phenom II and save more.

Why do you want a SSD?

The fan on the minja might be making things worse by messing up the airflow. Seems to me you should get rid of it and have those two fans attached to the case be intake & exhaust (depending on which way you want the airflow going). The air should go right over the minja.

Err, more RAM is not going to make your machine slower.

OP, also make sure you are going to be using a 64-bit OS to actually take advantage of all that RAM. 32-bit OS's can only address 4GB total.

Cool.

I checked the box, it has the AM2 logo on it.

From the manual, it says you just use the same bracket for sockets 754, 939, and AM2.

Ninja rev. B on Socket AM2+/AM3

I have a Scythe Ninja revision B on a socket 939 motherboard right now.

I am thinking about upgrading my computer and using the Asus M4a78 motherboard. This is an AM2+/AM3 motherboard.

Will I need to get a new bracket to attach the ninja to this motherboard? If so, where can I get this?

Thanks!

520W enough?

A friend is building a rig with the following specs:

Q6600
Nforce 650i Motherboard
4 Gigs RAM
8800GTS 512 (may add another later, so take into account 2 of these)
2 Hard Drives
2 Optical Drives

He keeps telling me "zomg I need 750W," but I want to convince him otherwise. Help!

I would suggest not buying your parts one piece at a time (RAM is maybe the only thing I would buy earlier as prices are rock bottom right now.) Save your money up until you have enough to buy everything at once; there's no reason to buy parts one at a time. You'll also save money/be able to buy bet...

Overheating Video Card? (Monitoring Software)

So I think my passive 7600GT is overheating when I play Half Life 2. What program could I use that would create a text log file of the temperature of the card, so that when my computer crashes while playing I can see if it's the card?

Thanks!

I'm not sure how quiet that setup will be. It seems geared towards gaming more than towards quiet operation, which is fine as long as your expectations are realistic. I can see why the GFX card would be hot - no place for air to move around it! There's some serious dead space there. You could try just taking off the slot cover with those dinky holes in it - those holes aren't doing anything.

as the Ninja has wider fin spacing which makes it better for LOW airflow It's not such precise: The Ultra-120 beat the Ninja at every voltage level except the lowest, where the two were equal it is a better passive heatsink. Very likely, or so I mean. Luca But we're talking about passive here - no ...

I would bet the T2Pro is going to be louder, since it has 2 80mm fans and 1 120mm. The Antec P150 is 40% more expensive though, so it depends on what kind of noise you'll put up with and how much modification you want to do. You might be able to undervolt the fans in the T2Pro to make them quieter, ...

You might want to try blocking those side vents and see what that does for cooling. I'm thinking that maybe some of the air being exhausted by the rear fan is being drawn through those vents and is not contributing to component cooling as well as it could because of the direct path. Or have you tes...

There are more if you do a Newegg search. Those both have a composite out, yes, but many video cards have a dongle that attaches to the video out port that does component and composite.

Gigabyte 7600GS
