My girlfriend has an Aspire One. I can't be in the same room with it. The fan is too annoying. Too bad, otherwise it's a nice device.

Is it true that the Dell netbook (mini 9, i believe) has no fan and is silent?

What netbook does the SPCR crowd recommend?

Consider the HP ProCurve Switch 1400-8G (J9077A).
Mine makes no noise and gives off very little heat.

Mine showed up today.

First impressions (no surprises here):
It's dead quiet. The screen is great. Keyboard is too small for adults.

It's not fast. Boot up and loading programs is sluggish.

So far, I've used it for web browsing. After the web browser is up and running, it's fine.

Update: I remounted my CPU cooler (Noctua NH-U9F).
TAT readings are now 43 at idle, 69 at 100% workload.
Original readings were 53 at idle, 79 at 100% workload.
A big (and welcome) improvement, but temps are still higher than I'd prefer. Perhaps I need a better CPU cooler.

UPDATE:
I removed the Low Noise Adaptor from the CPU cooler fan.
TAT temps are now 50 (from 53) at idle, 76 (from 79) at 100% workload.

Next steps:
- add an exhaust fan to the top case vent
- remount the CPU cooler.

TAT (Intel Thermal Analysis Tool) readings are:

OK or too high? I can't find anything on the Intel web site that says what the temps should be.
