After some further reading, instead of disconnecting the fan wires, I used the method of slipping some folded paper into the vents to stop the fan. The machine is completely silent now, as expected. It feels a tiny bit warmer to the touch, but it's difficult to tell. No other ill affects observed. ...

Update: well i got the cash together finally to have somthing to work with for the wii after opening up the case to put in a modchip (relavent in a sec) , i noticed removing the fan competely and replacing the heatsink wasnt an option at the bottom of the console, there is a tiny 1cm vent gap that l...

this is what i am thinking of doing, problem is it would look, not particulally pleasing White coloured fan? Alternatively, you could make a duct for your fan out of white plastic, so that the fan itself isnt visible. Another option is to eliminate the standard outer case entirely, and place...

Fit a fan on the inside? How about fitting a fan on the outside? That's how I modded my PS2 to quiet it down. The existing 60mm fan was hopeless, but gutting the fan left a neat duct outside of which I simply strapped on an undervolted 80mm fan. That looks like a supertiny fan of some sort, so you'...

Re: New low powered system - can I passively cool the CPU?
im building a system with the 3600-35W on friday (on time delivery permitting) im also planning to cool passivly, having just one 20(17)CM fan cooling the entire case (M-ATX) it'll be underclocked and undervolted, so i'll start with the stock cooler before moving onto aftermarkets (AMD is usually p...

Re: Heat pipes DO work upside down......how?
A few years ago, cooling devices started showing up on the market utilizing heat pipes for heat transfer. When reading the laymen's description (found in many product reviews at the time), I always came away with the impression that gravity was involved in transferring the condensed/cooled liquid a...

Re: New low powered system - can I passively cool the CPU?
I'm building myself a low powered system to do web surfing, word processing, watching movies, playing tunes, etc. :D Here are the bits I want to get: Mobo - Asus M2NPV-VM CPU - AMD X2 3600+ RAM - GeIL GX22GB6400UDC HDD - WD 800AAJS DVD - Samsung SH-W183 Case - Antec P150 I'd like to put a Thermalri...

Fish around...Felger Carbon and Bluefront have each done nifty things and a lot of experiments with the 13 blade 220/250. The slightly smaller Antecs have fewer reports. I see now you have a small mini-tower-so a big fan would be a door mount. That Heatsink-while compact...has a fan that hits a pea...

my system is almost identical, i will say one word of warning though, if you get an 8 series graphics card, you will be pushing the PSU to the limit, with my Core2duo at 2.9 (from 2.1) mine will often refuse to post (but yet posts fine with my old 600W noisebox PSU) i would go for the S12 a step up ...

The Antec Big Boy is 170 mm or 200 mm including the frame bezel. There are als 220 mm fans-250mm counting the bezel, these are seen on cases by several makers and undervolt below 3.5 v...or 250/300 rpm. The Antec stock is a 3 speed ajustable, in a fairly broad tower case, the Antec can be a top or fl...

HTPC With a 220mm fan?
Hey again guys :D Well ive now saved a few hundred quid up for a media pc, and i've been looking at how i'm going to cool the system silently Well the background on the system to be is: AMD X3600/3800 Cooled by a 2U Heatsink http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-039-AK&groupid=701&...

well intel is releasing a load of new CPU's come mid april IIRC, so the 6600 should drop in price some unless you have a reason to upgrade now, you could gain 30-50% bang for buck by waiting for unreal launch (i too know the feeling, got 1.2K in the bank Begging me to spend it , my amd 3000+ is decr...

Combining an 8800 vid card and a pretty heavy OC may make the 180 case a bit restrictive. I'd say you're a good candidate for a setup using a big 200 mm or 220 side fan. Felger Carbon and Bluefront, have both done projects-though they were going for real silence more than taming a hot rod game rig. ...

this is the setup I have - since the 8800gts/gtx is kind of long, it more or less separates your upper chamber into two. the upper half is taken care of since both the CPU and the exhaust fan are located near the top. i have a nexus 120mm for exhaust and an Antec TriCool on medium with a SI-128 (sc...
