Re: Intel Core i7-6700: Skylake i7 at 65W
Nice review! I'm currently running a passively-cooled i7-4770S. At a glance, it looks like the i7-6700, despite the same 65W TDP, would be generating more heat. I guess I will just have to try and see.

Seasonic RMA or fix?
I have a Seasonic Platinum Fanless 460W that has been great for the last year, but now has an intermittent coil whine (louder than my video card fans). I'm hesitant to RMA it because they won't do an advance replacement, and in previous experiences, hardware manufacturers will send noisy parts back ...

Re: Asus GTX970 STRIX
Here is a summary of all reviews of the three GTX 970 video cards with semi-passive operation Thanks bbalex! Over the years, I've found TechPowerUp to be trustworthy with noise and power measurements. The Palit card is clocked a bit higher and puts out higher performance (~3%), but at the expense o...

Re: Asus GTX970 STRIX
This is a dream come true. I knew Maxwell was efficient, but this is huge. nVidia had been insisting that card manufacturers disable the ability to do 0 RPM, even when using third-party utilities and firmware. I'm glad they ditched this policy. ASUS has a good implementation here, but it's a bit of ...

60C with Prime95 and a i7-3770S. nice. He says, "I ran Prime95 on the pure CPU stress ... settled at 60". He's getting way better results than me, but I think he's also a bit confused. The small FFT torture test is an FPU (floating point unit) stress test. It just tests one part of the processor fo...

Re: SilverStone SG07 vs CoolerMaster Elite 130
I looked at these three cases. The SG07 and Node 304 are pretty nice. They both have room for a larger CPU heatsink and a nice big side vent for the GPU. Unfortunately the Node 304 has no top vents and the SG07 blocks the PSU from top venting with the drive bays. The solution would be simple: raise ...

Re: Zalman FX100 vs. NoFan CR-95C
I just noticed FrostyTech has a very unique test platform . They basically just apply heat to the heatsink; no enclosure, no other fans or components messing with things. They haven't reviewed the FX100 either, but they did make an important observation about the orientation of the heatsink fins wit...

After seeing how great nVidia Optimus is on a laptop, I want the same for the my next desktop build. I looked at Virtu, but it's not very clear whether you can completely switch between integrated and dedicated. They also don't support Haswell.
Any solutions out there?

When I first read about Virtu i-Mode, I thought, "finally my silent PC prayers have been answered!". I thought SPCR would be all over it. Using i-Mode I want two things: dual displays and my GPU fan off out-of-game. I did find this: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/lucidlogix-virtu-mvp-virtualize-gp...

Pairing PWM
I want to run two PWM fans at the exact same speed. I notice there are "PWM splitters", but I wonder what that does to the RPM and PWM signals. Obviously it can't give both RPMs, so is the result whichever is higher? An average of the two? And what happens with the PWM signal?

Intel does an about-face on 975X?
In almost any P35 review, they point out how it introduces 1333MHz processor support, something that 975X does not support it. Recently ASUS announced they would support 1333MHz processors on three of their 975X boards, even thought Intel didn't officially support it. http://event.asus.com/mb/fsb133...
