Re: Very compact mATX case

The Smallest matx case I know of is the cerberus. 18.5l tower case, versus your 25.9l horizontal case. Not sure it fits your space, not sure how quiet you can get it, and *really* not sure if you're willing to pay the price!

Very nice! Like the attention to detail & simple solutions for your problems. You've made me want to redo my tv setup, even if only to vesa-mount my switch, never thought of that! Tempted to stick a pc behind there too but then I custom made my tv cabinet to fit my Streacom FC5 so that would be madn...

Nice build! I love this case, I have the black one. I made some alterations though: - 2x suspended 1TB 2.5" drive (using alu angle brackets screwed to the base and some stretchmagic) - I ordered the streacom/wesena ir kit but it appears it is not 100% MCE compatible and I didn't like it or its remot...

Thanks. You have said a lot about the build, problems and a lot of mods, but are you happy.? Could you recommend this to others (please take into account the amount of work you put into this above and beyond another (nosier) case) and the cost. Was it really worth it.? Andy Yes. Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

It'd be nice if you had documentation or proof for the ECC support of the consumer dual-cores. That they take ECC RAM doesn't mean the controller makes use of it. Agreed. I saw things like this , and then questioned specifically whether i3 + ecc memory would simply boot but not use ecc functionalit...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

Xeons aren't bad as such but they're too expensive and their motherboards consume too mcuh power for a small NAS. And even if you really wanted to use a Xeon, you could get a less powerful model more appropriate for a small NAS. You ask about underclocking (which would jeopardize stability) on a bo...

Soooooo overpriced!! £330 here from a reputable shop!
Consider the Wesena ITX7 for £109. Admittedly without PSU (and thankfully without dreadful VFD display), but for £221 price difference I don't consider this a problem

That's a bit iffy since I read the FSP 150 has a 40mm fan, unless that fan spins really slowly or rarely comes on, it would be a risk. The problem is that such fans, like pretty much all ball bearing fans, are somehow buzzy and there is no option for a fan swap. I read... I think on newegg... of so...

Re: Sandy Bridge + i3-2100T -- why can't I get under 22w idl

What everybody seems to forget is that the CPU's do not all have exactly the same power usage at a given frequency/power state. Intel specifies TDP = thermal design power = the power dissipation the cooling system has to be designed for. This is a maximum figure they can garantuee, not a specific nu...

Re: Very, very strange problem!

Hard shutdowns like this are typically initiated by the PSU (it actually taps into the shut down signalling so is one of the few devices that can do this). This is normally the case if there is an overcurrent situation where the PSU shuts the system down rather than allowing damage to occur. This do...

Re: Scythe Kozuti CPU cooler, 40 mm tall incl fan

Looks very promising (although at first sight it would make more sense to reverse the fan so hot air gets exhausted from the chassis).

This may be a perfect fit for the karma tf5 chassis I hope to buy (58mm tall).

If anyone has this cooler I am very interested in your results!!
