Re: PC upgrade/downsize to m-ATX

The Fractal Design Nano S is good
Really?
It’s bigger than some mATX cases still airflow to gfx-card is blocked by the PSU.

Either your Noctua was broken or your new fan is running at lower rpm!

Re: Why is Noctua NH-D15S so loud?

No way a Noctua fan at 600-800 rpm is unbearable noisy, unless it's faulty in some way. If so that "absolute piece of garbage" has 6 years warranty.

I am no expert on motherboards, usually I choose a rather expensive one in order to get all I may need -and alot I don't need. To day I would go for Asus Z170I Pro Gaming. On yours I miss the opportunity to use a M.2 SATA SSD. Have no idea if I ever will need USB 3.1 Gen2 but it is missing... I am p...

Re: Please help me configuring my quiet PC

First thing I would test in the Node 304, is if those front fans really is needed with 56+75W and one SSD. Simply remove them, connect the other two fans to the motherboard headers and then play around with fan settings, read temps and listen. If that doesn't work well you can connect the front fans...

I agree with Luca, Core 500 is better, but in my eyes it is so ugly and feels a bit cheap
Lian Li PC-Q10 is a really nice case but it is expensive and you didn't like windows. Well, that one has a window

Re: Please help me configuring my quiet PC

About sound dampening -trust Steve !! I am afraid the Metis Plus is too small and would give you unnecessary hard work with cable routing and such things. Fractal Node 304 is a nice case that I have been looking at many times. A couple of potential issues: Length of GFX card / PSU -this is a well do...

Re: Please help me configuring my quiet PC

Anytime a case requires cool air intake at the top of the case - which is the opposite of what naturally would happen - there will be a problem keeping it cool. With a bunch of fans in a small case I very much doubt there is such a thing as natural airflow. However like I said it will also work fin...

It suffers of the same Styx & Metis (and of both inverted ATX design and solid front cases) issue: it's an hot box, at least with stock cooling, and particularly for passive GPUs, and it cannot be improved easily. Re: Please help me configuring my quiet PC

Take a look at Raijintek Thetis It is about the same size (less depth) as Fractal Define Nano and can take ATX, mATX, mITX motherboard. The older Styx is almost the same (not ATX) and maybe cheaper. What I like with that case is that it has kind of two departments, one for GPU and one for CPU. No p...

Re: need to replace power supply on legacy silent pc

Well, perhaps you may put your CPU fan a couple of cm away from your CPU heatsink and then tell me whether the temps are the same or not I don't have to try that :) Can tell you directly that if air has to choose between tightly spaced fins and an open gap, much of it will take the easy path and sn...

Re: need to replace power supply on legacy silent pc

Back in 2007-2008 I replaced noisy ball bearing Adda fans with Noctua NF-P12 in two different new PSU. One connected to the PSU, the other one to outside running at 700 rpm. They are still in use by relatives. Noctua has 6 years warranty, even then horizontally mounted. Not budget friendly though. B...

I have been thinking of that case for a light gaming rig (MSI GTX 1050/1060 Gaming). Would probably do something like your #4 but with fans in both 5 and 6 (slow spinning and idle then not gaming). Fanless PSU. Don't think duct is necessary -VGA card will act as one and air tend to take the shortest...

Re: To move from uATX to mini-ITX, or not?

I never had any problems with Asus motherboards. To day I would go for Z170I Pro Gaming. It has what I want: good fan control, WiFi, M.2 (Sata/PCIE), 8 + front USB. And it seems to have decent VRM cooling. However I neither overclock or run torture tests so I don't bother reading reviews :)

I have exactly the same problem as you choosing PSU for a planned build in a Lian Li PC-Q10. Can't decide between Corsair SFX and Cooler Master. Re: A (hopefully) silent GTX 1060 gaming build.

I don't care much for all the numbers in PSU reviews. Almost any modern quality PSU is good enough for me if it's silent. None of those two is tested by SPCR so it's hard to know if they are completely or just rather silent. You can also read the Swedish review of Corsair SF450/600 According to that...

Re: A (hopefully) silent GTX 1060 gaming build.

I was looking at that case for a while. Think a 160mm modular PSU is a very tight fit and I don't like tight fits and cables that have do be bent 90 degrees so personally I wouldn't go for it. Perhaps instead Corsair SF450 (SFX semipassive) or Cooler Master V550 (140mm, fan spins all the time). Me t...

Probably because you want to see as a blanket statement what was a very specific remark (about the Nano as a replacement for the Mini). Yes, I understand what you mean. Going from mATX to mITX may be 'not as good' in some situations (eg. lack of PCI-slots). Suppose I reacted mostly on the build qua...
