I found that the fan was acceptably quiet when run at 5v. I couldn't stand it even when running at 50% in BIOS. It was about as quiet as the yate loon 120mm fan running at 5v I have on the cpu cooler. I don't think I'll really be able to hear it once I put it back in the case.

I can confirm that the Ninja rev B mounting can be a problem on 775 systems. With my 680i board out of the case last night I noticed that it was running a bit hot, close to 50C at idle.
