Re: Quest for a 13" dead silent!

BTW T500-series thinkpads are quieter than T400-series - you can have pretty much the same components inside (=same thermal load), but 500-series has larger diameter fan and cooling vents, so the fan has to run at lower rpm to exhaust the same amount of heat.

Just be careful to not vacuum out any small components like jumpers.. Happened to me once with desktop PC.
I've used only very low power setting since then

Re: Silent / Quiet and powerful notebook?

Thinkpad T & X series have been the choice for silent&powerful since T/X61 series.
They always silently hum in the background, and noise type stays soft even undel full load.
Look at notebookcheck.net for reviews with decibel measurements.
And I'm typing this with Dell, so not biased :)

Re: Samsung Series 9 Ultra Portable Notebook

Nice to see a laptop review, I'd like to see more of these. Acoustics are often disregarded totally in many reviews on other sites (and SPL measurements are rare, except notebookcheck.net). Knowledge about laptop's noise is very important before buying, as on stores there is too much background nois...

Re: List of fanless laptops

Also, availability of LG X300 seems to be quite limited globally.
Asus T91 tablet is fanless, but quite unattractive otherwise.
And so are iPads and some android tablets, but they are not laptops as described in the header so we can ignore them in this thread.

With 6-cell. Could be up to 7-8 hours of just idling, but that 4 hours was wifi-surfing or video playback. Cut the numbers to half for 3-cell.

In reviews it has been around the same, or little longer, like 2h40min if wifi-surfing with 3-cell at http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2366

X1 also has matte screen instead of reflective, which might be huge plus, if you intend to use the laptop in areas where you can't control the amount and direction of light. On the other hand, mini1012 (newest mini10) with Atom N450 has over two times longer battery life (my X1 used to get 4 hours o...

3G phone & connect over bluetooth -> should not cause more than 1W power draw on laptop, but of course phone battery will wear out faster. Additional bonus: you can surf with just phone using the same data plan.

Lenovo Thinkpad T61 fanless operation

I'd like to report some tests with T61 and fanless operation. It's a 15.4" inch model, with T7100 cpu, 2 GB RAM, Hitachi 7200 rpm 100 GB hard drive and Intel x3100 graphics. I think many readers of SPCR would be interested in laptop reviews. Notebookreview.com has lot of good laptop reviews, and they have noise sections. But they don't have actual dB measurements!
