Re: New SPCR design & management
Hello Eric, It's been a long time since I've visited these forums. But I felt this is a moment to come out of hiding and speak up. You have big shoes to fill, this website and the articles on it used to be kind of a big deal to those who cared about quiet computing. The new articles I've seen show u...

Re: Recommended Hard Drives - a major revision
Hooray. Well timed! I've been intending to replace my ancient data drives. Thanks!
Is there any chance of the HDD enclosure list being updated? I think most of the ones on it currently are no longer available.

... With an i7 test platform, it's no longer relevant for our large HS reviews... and we've never actually posted a serious review on passive CPU cooling. Our basic point of view these days (actually for a long time) is that in most cases, a wee bit of forced air cooling is far preferable to none. ...

As a silence enthusiast who hasn't visited this site in a long time, this review came as a bit of a shock. I used to idolize Scythe and particularly the Ninja quite a bit (still have an original Rev B. working it's passive magic in my pc). It's good to see that the market has progressed so much, wit...

I can't believe how terrible everything is according to this article. If this article is to believed, as soon as any single part of your PC fails or you so much as yell at it while it's on the entire thing will fry. I've had tons of hardware fail on me and in general once I figured out what exactly ...

Are you one hundred percent sure that the power input did not change? (for example if you perhaps plugged something into the PSU on the same line that might change it slightly. If you are sure, then the only thing that can be different is the air resistance on the fan blades. I'm guessing that by "i...

I'm glad to see CM working on quiet more seriously. Seeing a manufacturer that is so well known for the practicality and ease of use of its cases makes me hopeful for a good combination of silence and ease of use. Don't get me wrong, the P182 (and probably P183 as well, but I haven't had the chance ...

Here's my theory. Everybody loves porn. But only the conservatives are stupid enough to pay for it :P No srsly. I think that every group consumes porn more or less equally, the difference is more likely in the group's look upon actually spending money on it versus getting it for free over the intern...

I still find it surprisingly stupid how little these ratings are based around the actual game play experience. Sure, the content is somewhat important in terms of role models, desensitization and some other issues. But, speaking from experience (and I've got quite a bit when it comes to gaming), the...

The problem with this is that a BIG part of gun crimes are committed using legally owned guns. On top of that, having a legal weapon trade in progress makes it that much easier to have an illegal weapons trade. It's basically like Nick says. Do you think that illegal AK cam into the country illegall...

Don't most graphics cards come with one? Knicker elastic. Go to the nearest notions store or section of a department store and get a few feet of it (or ask your nearest female !). I've seen a variety of thicknesses available. I would say the Slipstream and the Nexus are about equal, all things considered. They're both about the same price. Supposedly the slipstream does slightly better in performance, but then there's also a pair of fan mounts in the package with the nexus real silents. I'm sticking with Nexus at the mom...

You could also just pull the feet off the bottom, I haven't had mine come off the P182 too yet, but the ones I had on my Solo came off all the time and I reckon the ones on my P182 would've probably been the same if I hadn't already made the feet nice and slidy by putting some tape on the bottom. The question here is, what's it going to solve? Throwing an equal amount of rocks will most likely piss them off and thus make them throw more rocks at you. Bulldozing them down will scare them shitless. This means they probably won't come back.. On their own. Chances are they'll either buzz off ent...

A dust filter is generally quite an impedance (= requires higher fan RPM = more noise), which in my opinion is the only reason not to use one. If cleaning your dust filter is more work than cleaning the inside of your PC, than you're using a shitty dust filter. This counts especially if you're using...

I'd say the biggest difference between the solo are in looks and in ergonomics/ease of use. The solo is really quite limited in space. I am quite happy with Steam, it is indeed Digital Rights Management, but it's not as intrustive as securom. On top of that it gets the customer an extra service that the pirate won't receive. Steam itself as a service allows you to buy and directly download games pretty easy and fast, and their pric...
