I'm afraid you'll be disappointed with Panaflo. It's definitely even worse than Papst, based on my experience. People are presumably using Panaflo only because it's significantly cheaper and more widely available than competitors, like Papst or PC&P Silencer. I guess most people would prefer Papst o...

Where did you find out that Fortron = Sparkle? I learned it at C&CF forum in Ars OpenForum where frequent references have been made to that fact. For instance, the following remark is found in http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=77909585&m=3530916334&r=1050957434#105095...

AX-7 better than SLK-800 for fanless operation
For fanless cooling, i.e., cooling without a fan directly on top of a heatsink, a heatsink with more space between fins is better than the one with dense fins even if the latter has slightly better performance with a fan on it. So, I'd rather suggest AX-7 over SLK-800 because both perform similarly ...

Alpha also has U60 and UBC60, which are of the same dimensions as PAL15/153 but have fins of different shape. In fact, I'd recommend U60/UBC60 over PAL15/153 for fanless or quasi-fanless operation because the former has flat fins placed in such a manner that air flows through them easily, compared t...

I've 5V the FBA Hydrowave ones and it doesn't seem to make any noise though *shrugs* The sample I tested was also FBA08A12L1A. Of course, there can be variation by individual. Yours could be a better one and mine could be a worse one. But I've also heard from other people that a 5-volted Panaflo FB...

Even at 5v the Stock 80mm Globe fan in the Enermax is louder than the 92mm Papst at7v, and the Papst moves considerably more air. Why do you have to keep the stock fan? I'm not suggesting 5-volting the stock fan but rather replacing the stock fan with a new fan to be 5-volted. If you use a 80mm fan...

Another alternative is to remove the bottom 92mm fan and run the 80mm fan at 5v. Even if 7-volted, the noise level of the quietest Papst 92mm fan is likely to be 11 -- 12 dBA or so, whereas the noise level of a loud fan with a good airflow rated at, say, 25dBA/30CFM, drops down to something like 6dB...

Great modding with your Sea Sonic APFC! It is really nice that you cut out the rear or front grille because not only does it improve air flow but also eliminates the noise created by air hitting the grille. (I've bent each and every bar of the grille of my Enermax so that air flow is parallel to the...

Nice job! This provides a valuable evidence about how much cooling is required for Ti4200/4400. No offense, but I'm not sure if it's literally "totally silent", given that you are using a Panaflo that tends to emit motor-friction noise at 5v and that a fan directly mounted on heatsink could cause sl...

Re: Panaflo 120mm or 80mm ?
a) What is the story with the leads on Panaflo fans? I really wanna plug them into a 3pin mobo header. Is that do-able? A Panaflo fan has a two-pin connector. You can plug itinto a 3-pin mobo header with an adapter, which I'm not is readily available in your area, but I'm not sure if there is so mu...

There is also a problem with putting a fan on top of the HS due to vibration caused by it, as I pointed out in the original thread. I agree with Mike about an intake fan. You don't need it if its sole purpose is getting air in. The negative pressure suffices provided you have holes in appropriate po...

Yes, I think putting the fan in its "normal" place atop the PAL8942 may work better (with a duct) for these reasons: 1) The fan is deeper inside the case--so it generates less noise. 2) It is positioned right next to the heat source (CPU), so it should be more efficient at pumping hot air. Farther ...

He also has a page for making a duct. http://www.moon.sannet.ne.jp/f-wataru/seion6.htm As a matter of fact, you don't have to follow this instruction precisely and can make one by using a single plastic sheet obtained by cutting the s...

I'm assuming you have or going to build a P4 system, given that you mentioned Zalman 6500B. (If you have an AMD system, you can do the same thing with PAL8045 anyway.) I also assume your case fan is not placed lower than the CPU socket on your mobo. Often it's a bit higher than the CPU socket. Make ...

$40 is expensive, particularly compared to other solutions. Even if I import a big black heatsink used by the Japanese guy that I mentioned from Japan, it won't cost me over $20. Any of HSs at AllElectronics cost less than $10 shipped. I'd have to wait for a review, too, to see if this is worth it. ...

Leov , the huge black heatsink on Ti4200 shown on the cited page actually weighs only 130g, lighter than PAL6035. According to that guy, added aluminium fins weigh about 120g in total. Alpha P125 may not be so suitable for this purpose since it has so tightly placed fins. I don't know what Vantec P...

I suggest using a larger heatsink with more space between fins for passing cooling, such as the one shown on the following page. http://www.moon.sannet.ne.jp/f-wataru/seion7.htm The guy who runs this site has his Ti4200 passively cooled without undervolting it. GPU temp for Ti4200 shown is 41C -- 50...
