For low power consumption I will not recommend core i7 or i5 the new architecture is not as power efficient as the old one. I will recommend and older Q8xxx or Q9xxx and a low power LGA 775 board The power consumption vs computational power is much better for Qxxxx an for an off-grid is very import...

This is pretty interesting, however I wonder if there are any more wholistic solutions. For example, Linux has preloading and whatnot, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to specify say a diskcache priority, and have certain apps and libraries loaded at boot based on priority, and release the cache b...

I was not talking about the difference between the difference between old and new 8400gs iterations. I was talking about the difference between PureVideo 2 and PureVideo3. PureVideo version has nothing to do with fab process. The only significant difference between PureVideo v2 and PureVideo v3 is V...

Did you check out the wiki page for Pure Video? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NVIDIA_PureVideo There is little difference between PV2 and PV3, really only VC-1 acceleration, and that is hardly popular. In any case an 8400gs or a 94/9500gt would be very decent. I *think* 9500gt has the best power cons...

I would imagine that replacing the fan would completely void the warranty. PCP&C PSUs IMHO can barely be classified as quiet. If you are looking specifically for an 80mm fan PSU the Antec Signature is quiet and is really well put together. Have you seen the recommended PSU list? The Modu82+ is quite...

If he uses a PSU like Corsair which is a 120mm fan, how will that cool the harddrives? Won't the exhaust just point downwards? The fan blows into the PSU and the air exits through the vent which is located at the back of the case. But I thought that was a given. i think he isn't aware of the ...

Are programs like Speedfan and fancontrol bad for some fans?
As the title suggests, I would like to know whether running programs like Speedfan (windows) and fancontrol (Linux) which simulate PWM are bad for your standard 3-pin non-PWM fan. The man page of fancontrol says : Please be careful when using the fan control features of your mainboard, in addition t...

The 9600GT is head and shoulders (maybe torso too) above the 3650, which would not be too good for games I dont think. I dont think the ASUS cooler is all that good compared to the Accelero, from what I have read. What is your case/system like in terms of air flow? Are you not up for custom fitting...

Just some things to think about: RE RAID, I do not believe this is "hardware RAID." This is just software RAID enabled by the chipset. This is no different to the other RAID solutions offered on previous chipsets. It's also debatable whether RAID is of any use to you, so personally I wouldn't factor...

OK, I'm assuming that NAS backup is already a given, and basically you just want your system drives. If you have two drives of the same speed, there is nothing wrong with having a separate home and separate root partition. The discrepancy comes if one drive is faster/slower than the other. Thus, if ...

i got dual vf900 on my 3870, it vorks fine. im using the NOCTUA fan adapter, it gives just enough voltage to start the fans, but its sufficient to cool the card. this is much lover voltage than the fanmate 2 gives. so a vf900 at some speed would work. main problem is cooling VRM's but all in all i ...

Yeah according to the techreport review they win the performance crown, but are fairly noisy. However, like most review sites the noise discussion is limited to a few db graphs and there is no subjective analysis of the drive's noise Noise levels were measured... 1" from the side of the drives...
