Raspberry Pi - An ARM GNU/Linux box for $25
Came across the Raspberry Pi the other day. Find it intriguing, especially as my early computing experiences include soldering together my very own Sinclair ZX80. Not out yet so this is all theoretical, but already started trying to re-prioritise my computing requirements: perhaps use the Raspberry ...

OK - I've de-frocked my Delta. WARNING - the heatsink sheet around the internals is live! Things are all working fine and still need to take some pics and work out where to place it. Cracking the case: not sure there is a way that is non-destructive. Basically the 2 halves are glued together with th...

Re: dell da-1 getting hot
Is this a horribly stupid idea? Not at all - exactly what this forum is about  On the one hand you kiss your warranty goodbye, risk breaking the thing and could find out the residual charge storage in the capacitors. On the other the cooling has to be radically improved. Have had a similar...

Re: Speedfan vs Fancontrol
Why am I not surprised that once I figured out how to get fancontrol working in Ubuntu 10.04 it would work far better that SpeedFan in Windows 7? 5 years since I tried to tweak any fans in Windows so cant compare directly. But figure this is hardly surprising - the nature of Linux is that when you ...

My NC81 with Fintek f71862fg needs 2 things: 1) add acpi_enforce_resources=lax to boot command line to allow sensors modules to conflict with ACPI addresses - I suspect this is your basic issue. It sounds counter intuitive but until there are ACPI drivers for the sensors modules is necessary. 2) My ...

Would also be curious to know.
For sure the 05 BIOS rev supports Propus and Rana core so Athlon II X4 6xx is OK. The Magic-Pro website (same board, except in Chinese!) seems to indicate Phenom X4 and X3 up to 65W are OK.

Re: Can I snip the unused portion of my IDE cable?
I'm pressed for space in my case, and my hard drive is connected at the middle connector, so I'm thinking I can cut it off after that point and tape over it. Electrically I can't see why it would effect anything. cheers No problem - just use sharp scissors. I have cut (and re-made as appropriate) p...

In the UK the modem is usually 'free' with the contract. IIRC there is an £80 charge if you lose it or fail to return it at the end of the contract. Again, IIRC, they have an embedded MAC address so swapping the modem is non-trivial as you need the cable company to play ball as well. My cable inter...

OK - so RMAd the Delta power brick and the new one has exactly the same no-load draw (21W, 0.09A at 240VAC)! Doesn't make sense to me as the Energy Star rating for a very similar model, ADP-90SB BBXX is 0.17W @ 230VAC. My guess is my ADP-90SB AB differs mainly in the mains cable standards/formats. N...

OK – so the nights are drawing in and I decided it was time to play with my rig. As traditional towers/desktops seem to be going out of fashion in favour of laptops and netbooks I decided to go ITX. I'ld vote for the PSU. It could be the mobo if you have a delayed start parameter set in the BIOS and the BIOS has gone mad (or indecisive whether the drive should start or not). But highly unlikely. If you disconnect the data cable, and leave the power cable plugged in, do you get the same symptoms...
