Re: Passive cooled CPU and video card in miditower - only 3
Thanks again for your insightful answers. It was a great talk about memory in that video, and I will change my list accordingly. Also thanks you for reminding me about fan control and pins, and how Asus and MSI handles this differently. I never had an MSI motherboard, and find it hard to pick the ri...

Re: Passive cooled CPU and video card in miditower - only 3
I have decided to go with all Abula 's suggestions after some days of thought and research. I appreciate your explanation of the different CPU coolers. I haven't decided on the memory modules yet but either 2 x 16GB or 4 x 16GB. There’s still some days until I start ordering. For storage only M.2 an...

Re: Passive cooled CPU and video card in miditower - only 3
Abula - thank you for the input. The first suggestion (the NoFan CR-95C) would definitely work. I know I didn't mention a budget, but that cooler is a little too expensive for me. I wouldn't like to undervolt the CPU, to be able to use the cheaper NoFan CR-80EH. Following your third suggestion, the...

Passive cooled CPU and video card in miditower - only 3 fans
I'm considering to build this hopefully quiet and relatively powerful workstation for a graphic designer. But I am concerned if the airflow will be sufficient for a passively cooled Intel I5-8600K 3.6 GHz and also a passively cooled video card: Palit Geforce GTX 1050 Ti KalmX (4 GB). I will be insta...

Re: Video card for Adobe CS5 - silence please
As i write this I'm in the middle of searching for a decent motherboard. As of now I've put Sabertooth X58 and ASUS P6X58D-E on the list. Pretty similar boards though. I know this post is placed in video cards, so I might need to take my questions elsewhere. But I assume you did some thinking before...

Re: Video card for Adobe CS5 - silence please
Thanks for your research on this sirius :) I also suspected some marketing aspects in concern to nVidia and Adobe. Your link certainly emphasized this. Glad to read what you wrote: "There are no restrictions or issues with AMD cards." The Saphire HD 6850 did indeed score very well in this test: http...

Video card for Adobe CS5 - silence please
Hi, I'm going to build a new silent pc for my wife. The PC will be dedicated to graphical design in Adobe CS5. As we already have an Antec P182 case, I will preferably reuse that. I haven't been following up on new hardware for quite a while, so to start somewhere I'm trying to figure out which vide...

3 diff. cards - same gpu and passive cooled
I can't tell the difference between these cards in performance, so should I just choose the cheapest or should I prefer the Asus to run on my Asus mobo? All are 8600GTS with passive cooler: Gigabyte GV-NX86S256H: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ClassValue=VGA&ProductID...

Hi all, I hope you want to review my list. This is what I've finally decided, but before I order anything I would really like to hear your oppinion: Case: Antec P182 Mobo: ASUS P5K Deluxe PSU: Seasonic S12-380 CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz CPU cooling: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Scythe S-FLEX SF...

So instead of having 1 drive that can break, you would rather have 3 drives that could break? The more drives you have, the more likely you are to experience a hard drive failure. Yes I would. Rather lose 400GB from on of the 3 drives than 1TB if I had only one drive. Even better, I would put 2 of ...

So you would anytime prefer (any) 1 big harddisk instead of 2-3 smaller but well-knowned for silence? If I had to go for a 1TB drive I probadly would end up with a raid1 setup. I'm simply too worried about beeing dependent on one big disk. I would probadly also put 2 of the 3 SpinPoint drives in rai...

Can 1TB storage be quiet?
Hi all, In my next new build in an Antec case (P182) I need to have 1TB storage available avg. 6 hrs/day. My intuitive first choise would be 3 x Samsung SpinPoint T133 HD401LJ in a suspended setup (no grommets) - very basic and 1.2TB is even better. Will this be somewhat quite or can I improve it? C...

basic question about ducts
Hi all, I've read and seen alot use internal ducts. There's also a great article about how to build them, but it's hard to find information about how to use them in different setups. If these ducts really do benefit temperature and noisereduction, I would expect it to be a subject to find alot of po...

Asus P5W - does it have heat issues?
Does anyone know if Asus P5WDH Deluxe has heat issues due to it's passive coolingsystem? I've read it's reccomended to remove the shiny metal covers from both the north and south bridge but would it help to exchange the heatsinks with new passive sinks (i.e. zalman).

The tasklist for this system is incomplete. This system is going to be a multipurpose task for a various graphical applications (even join a renderfarm overnight) and a htpc too. Sorry for this somewhat messy thread. I should perhaps do some more considerations before posting a half-decided system. ...

NeilBlanchard , your reply is a bit unclear to me. Do you suggest me to buy any videocard as long as it's not the 8800? kater , Seasonic S12-380 sounds like a better choise. I don't think I want to put a fanless psu in the lower chamber in a P182. All in all I think the 182 is a bit big for a midit...

please review my list and considerations
Hi all, I've been picking out hardware and reviews here for my next system. The system has to be as quite as possible, still offering good video decoding, batch picture decoding in photoshop and rarely gaming. I've not yet decided whether I want water- or air-cooling (see below), so I hope this post...
