All those embedded costs/carbon/pollution are also present in every energy source, right? Nuclear power is hardly carbon free when you consider the mining and refinement and transportation of the uranium fuel. As for the embedded energy/carbon/pollution in building a nuclear power plant; concrete i...

It's called a package manager and a sane design. ie. Not Windows. Windows is pretty much unique in requiring a reboot for every single update . no, not a package manager. i know what a package manager is. this isnt released under GPL. it's paid-for. it's used for servers so that they minimize their...

I reboot my workstation whenever I need to (usually after an OS update).
there's some program that allows linux users to install and use updates without rebooting the OS. i forget its name, but it saves you the downtime of rebooting.

I'm all for nuclear energy, it doesn't produce too much waste, is relatively clean, and there is nothing better right now. The only problem is : it is not a renewable energy. it's efficient enough that current known stocks of fissile materials with currently available technology can produce electri...

You have not been following things very closely, then. Yucca Mountain has gone through a long and costly process, and along the way, some data was faked, and in the end, it is all bollocks -- it won't work for safe long term storage of nuclear waste. We have no solution for nuclear waste. Some of i...

Yucca Mountain.
i don't understand what you're getting at.

yucca mountain is a potential site for long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel. so what? it's like a landfill for nuclear fuel.

We are alive because of greenhouse gasses -- and ~43% percent increase of carbon dioxide (one of the main GHG) in just 150 years, when we sat at 275PPM for 10,000 years is a substantial increase. Three Mile Island nearly melted down -- all too real. Nuclear is way too expensive. All the plants being built now (all over the world) are way over budget. The same money spent on wind would be a lot more productive. We need to mimic the principle of what they are already doing in Germany with ren...

when i had it and an 8800GTS, the 8800GTS started overheating and artifacting. i attributed it to the case.

i switched out to a p180, added another front 120mm fan, and couldnt be happier.

Oliver Stone is a paranoid schizophrenic. You may recall his film JFK , in which he claimed that LBJ had Kennedy assassinated, so South of the Border is going to be fairly predictable. I don't think anyone will care much (other than Amy Goodman), just as very few in the US care much about Chavez (e...
