I believe the only 35w s939 part was a single core 3800, not x2. You may be out of luck. You could try undervolting an x2 though like the other poster said.

Can either of you see if the gigabyte motherboard has any advanced bios options? Apparently pressing CTRL-F1 on boot may give extra management settings.

I don't own this board but from the manual it does not appear this board supports over/under clock/volt directly in the BIOS. However, it does support CnQ (a form of underclock/undervolt power scheme) which means you could run CrystalCPUID in Windows. Hoping this has hidden advanced bios features, ...

The last time I ran a cpu without a fan it was a pentium 100MHz, which ran at around 4 watts idle. It was extremely hot, too hot to touch. Although the heatsink size back then was more like a passive north bridge cooler is these days. I would start with a speed controlled cpu fan, and make trial run...

Lots of people would disagree with your assertion that nVidia drivers are more stable than ATI's (esp. people with GeForce 8-series cards and Windows Vista). Both have their share of issues and pros/cons. I'll leave it at that. From personal experience and reading stories of others, ati drivers hav...

Actually for the heavy photoshop work, I think you would appreciate the higher performance of an intel system. The lower end core2 cpus are almost as energy efficient as amd, and will still outperform them. Not to mention the price reduction on quad cores will push all pricing lower now. As for vide...

There have been a few discussions here you can search for. Give us a few details about what you want to do with it. eg home theatre, gaming, over/under clocking, basic apps etc. Also, it has been determined that the x2 3600 processor is very similar and can be undervolted to provide the same low wat...

Bad news for me, kinda. My local shop came through with an RMA on my old board outside the warranty period. So I wont be getting this board after all. My HTPC is going back an athlon XP 1800. But it saves me cash for the next upgrade at least. One thing though, a day after ordering the gigabyte from...

Ah, thanks. I hope that helps with undervolting. Also, the review doesnt mention anything about voltage settings for ram. Im looking at 2gb of OCZ ram for this board, but I think the voltage is 2.1v. I have heard some asus boards dont like it. If the bios doesnt support setting the ram voltage manua...

I have one on order, hopefully get it on friday. Appears that is has everything I wanted except for cpu voltage adjustments. :(
Can anyone vouch for this board working with CrystalCPUID?
Or does anyone know of an updated bios with undervolting capability?

Thanks palindroman, thats very helpful. The two seem very similar, perhaps the BE is binned to be slightly better, but Im not sure the limited availability and 50% cost premium are worth it. Looks like I will be going for a 3600.

Well since the BE-23xx has been tested at the factory to run at 1.25, I would think they allow some kind of safety margin. The regular 3600 hasnt been tested that low, so it may not make it as far down. Therefore, as with any over/under clocking, its up to us to find how far each will go :) That sai...
