Late to the party, but I just had a drive failure on my 2TB GP which is a pure media drive and is much newer than than 1TB GP which is my system drive. Still running: 1TB Hours: 10698 Load Cycle: 5049 Failed (ate partition table, several disk errors) 2TB Hours: 1573 Load Cycle: 4475 Clearly the cycl...

Note I read some nasty things about the Gigabyte on another forum(didn't read it all). http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1031679365#post1031679365 The Palit card is very quiet. The heat sink seems to have a plate for all the ram. And a separate one for power circuitry: http://www.overclocker...

Not coil, it's a Buzzer.

In another forum, I commented that this was a stupid design, more like a piezo buzzer, than a coil, then someone else pointed out the obvious: It is a piezo buzzer! Loading must be causing a voltage ripple being picked up by the buzzer circuit, stuffing it with foam solves the noise problem, but I l...

YAY! It is fixed. Now my system is blissfully quiet even in 3d games/demos/etc.. The Fix: I cut a strip off an earplug (expanding foam) and stuffed it in the hole in the coil. Pretty much undetectable now. I can only hear it with the side of the case off and my ear about 2 inches from the coil. Now...

Nice quiet card: Palit 8800GT. Coil Whine. * FIXED IT *

While this is not a silent card. It is a very quiet card. The non standard cooler that comes stock is great. I never realized how noisy my 7900GS was even when idling in 2d mode, when I replaced it with the Palit, my idle noise dropped quite a bit, such that I barely notice my PC now. Under load it ...

This is not a change I am looking for, Legacy serial was a deciding factor in favor of Gigabyte for me, I have serial based GPS. More USB? Bah. You have the 4 on back, most cases have more on the front to connect to headers and you can use a hub, my monitor also has a built in hub and if you still n...

On the cheaper side, how about an NSK6500, it seems a bit bigger than the Solo. It might be enough.

I want gunmetal.

Personally I would like to see gunmetal all around like the P182. For looks the P182 is my favorite case.

The Sonata Designer 500 has been up for a while, though this is just a blue accent on the white model. There was show photo with different accents, Red, Green, Blue.

Making my decision on these. I am going with the Solo unless someone can show me something better for a moderate build. The only advantage I see with the P182 is that it is bigger. I am not to crazy about the intakes on the P182. One is only for the Power supply section. The other general purpose on...

P180 air flow door open vs closed.

Just wondering how much the door impedes airflow. Has anyone tested temperatures open vs closed?

This also caught my eye from the Xbit review of the Gigabyte: The second distinguishing feature of the Ultra Durable 2 series is the six-channel processor voltage regulator circuitry built with high-frequency Low RDS(on) MOSFET. This circuitry design ensures not only longer lifetime, but also higher...

I am building a new computer and going with a Gigabyte. The Ultra Durable 2 with excellent high quality power components look like a winner to me. Should last forever, use less power, produce less heat.

I love the sealed/filtered PS section, I would like to see this migrate to a mid tower, keeping the PS in the traditional location to resolve fit issues that the P180 creates. Otherwise this looks like a big time negative pressure design with dual monster exhaust fans that will try to suck air in th...

The P150/solo also has front intake fan potential, where the Sonata has fan location between the HD and Video card. The P150/Solo HD cage is also oriented to allow better air flow. I think the Solo in Black looks sharp. I think the are on cheap($45 after MIR) at Newegg and you pick whatever power su...

By balancing I meant turning down the exhaust fan or removing it, while turning up the intake. I have no expectation of having inadequate exhaust, it is the search for adequate filtered intake that is difficult. I find modern, quiet power supplies contribute minimally to exhaust (unless case is very...

Personally I don't like VA/TN (bought two VA's and one TN) panels and will only look at IPS panels going forward. The reason for me is viewing angle numbers quoted by manufacturers are a joke. Only IPS offers me (highly subjective, some people think TN has good viewing angles) a reasonable real worl...

Re: Case with filtered intake for positive/neutral pressure?

You incorrectly guessed at the problem, and as a result you came up with the wrong solution. The only reason why the PSU could be "fighting" the exhaust fan is if there was insufficient intake area or the airflow had a severe internal bottleneck. Very few cases have severe internal bottlenecks, but...

Case with filtered intake for positive/neutral pressure?

I hate negative pressure. My current PC was negative pressure and it pulled dust bunnies in everywhere, Any unused connected had a dust bunny. Evil. It was a Antec sx 635. With one exhaust and the stock power supply which ran exhaust at high speed all the time. When the power supply failed and I put...

uminum. When used with conventional fans (via a mod), the Freezer works well with low airflow. It's the stock fan that, for two reasons, does not work well when undervolted. No surrounding casing and a integrated circuit fan controller in the fan hub that does not undervolt gracefully. If you...

I have both a freezer and a Sunbeam, and the fin spacing on the Sunbeam is not much wider than the Freezer. It is a combo of thin spacing and depth. The fins on the Freezer 7 seem too close together for adequate air to get through to the other side, and the fan doesn't help much, as it doesn't direct the air with the way it's made. I read a review (don't have link right now) and they said exactly this. Fins are too tightly spaced you need a fan...
