Many of the recommendations given on the forums are probably inappropraite for a 'casual' silencer for want of a better term as many of the members will make modifications to their case which will alter their choice of fan. First try setting the tricool fan you have in the case to low. There is a sw...

[Metal] Foam

Hey all, I know the SSD as standard era is almost upon us but it's not quite here yet. I wanted to build a hard drive enclosure that would be better than those available on the market without using any liquids. In my brief research I found out about metal foams. Metal foams are not as conductive as ...

Apart from aesthetics and the backplate (which i believe you can now buy separately), is there much reason why someone would choose this over the TRUE, for OCing or silencing? It costs less and is smaller. TRUE doesn't really cost less. These are around £35 now. The reason I chose it is the 140mm ...

The slip stream cuts the air more times/m resulting in a higher pitched sound at the same rpm to the YL but probably gets a gain of static pressure and thus a higher CFM in the right situation. So drop the rpm talk. Just compare CFM to noise. You will probably see the biggest difference in an envir...

AMD rules the budget sector. I would recomend a cheap AMD system with a Cheap 6100 board and a dual core 4000+ because it seems a little pointless to go without a dual core machine. Programs and multitasking will run smoother. There is also the Intel Celeron E1200 that is dual core for the same pri...

XP is 'running' on this. One of the drives failed and windows now doesn't boot but when i get round to it, XP will be running again.

I always add a floppy because I find it useful for things like RAID drivers (slip streaming in XP is horrible), flashing (I don't always trust windows to stay up) and moving very small files.

Sorry - allow me to be clear. At starting voltages for the fans I own the 140mm yate loon is the quietest. The slipstream is louder. This is roughly the same RPM at around 300-350RPM.

Only thing I have to add is that my slipstream fan (I only have one so could be sample varience) is louder at the same RPM than any of my Yate Loon 140mm fans.

I use deamontools and a generic free iso burner. That way I only have to leave the computer alone for the time it takes to make some tea and I can just mount the CD/DVD image. As hard drives are so big these days (I only have a small 80gb raid array) it means you can get away with it more often than...

Yeah, mine has 2 platters. OK, good to know this drive type has survived wrapped in an insulator.

Will try some home-made methods and see how it goes.

Thanks loads for the reply and the info :D

Scorpio - not quiet enough

Hello all, I have a couple of WD scorpio's in RAID. I'm not willing to use just one disk. The hard drives are suspended but are still too loud. So, I'm after opinions. I notice that scythe has a 2.5" drive enclosure (quietdrive) out. How effective is this, and are drive-sandwhich mods/other mods mor...

Scythe do an enclosure specifically for 2.5" drives. Just bought a Toshiba MK4025GAS hard drive.. the 2.5" drive recommended on that "recommended page" The page is right, it is not inaudible. Audible is too noisy for me. It makes a faint noise, and I can hear it from the other side of the room. I do...

Budget home-work PC spec check

Hey all, Would appreciate it if you guys could give a quick sanity check on this budget system I'm building for a family member. x1800xt voltage controller at 113 degrees C

Hello all, I've replaced the cooler on my x1800xt with the accelero S1. In the persuite of silence I ran it passive. I then loaded up ATI tool for a stress test and was slightly conserned at the voltage regulator temp. It rose to 113 degrees C. I've asked AMD Customer support but they don't have acc...

There was a discussion about this I read some where - on these forums I think. There's a sticky on the HD part of the forums if I remember correctly.

If I remember correctly the conclusion was if the HD is in line with the ground then you're OK.

Hello all, Forgive me if this has been posted before (it seems like the kind of question that may have) but I've done some searches and couldn't find an answer. I've gotten my system pretty quiet. The PSU is passive, the intakes are silent, WD scorpio drives suspended and I can't hear them at 1m - b...
