Movember

Hi All, I've been roped into doing Movember this year. To make it worthwhile I'm asking one and all to pull together and sponsor me with enough money that my other half can't help but be persuaded it's a good thing! For those of you not in the know:- Movember is the most awesome of all charity event...

Thanks for the reply!

I did add my forum name in the payment notes. I don't want to bother Mike unneccesarily if I'm just being impatient.

I paid on June 22nd so it's been a couple of weeks... Do you think I should PM MikeC?

How long to wait for Patron status?

I donated $50 to SPCR a little while ago now. How long did other people have to wait for their forum names to be tagged with patron status?

I've done this - it does reduce the noise and no vibration is audible hard mounted (although vibration can be felt ever so slightly on the case frame). I have since purchased a 3.5" scythe quiet drive (to put the 2.5" quiet drive in) as seeks got noisier over the space of about 18 months on my scorp...

I have an Antec Phantom from a while ago now. If I were to buy a PSU today it'd be the enermax 87+ 500W as I still have fans in my system running at > 300rpm (550rpm). The only reason I didn't go seasonic or something back then is the PSU would have been louder than the rest of my system. Fanless is...

4) Fit the terminal part of the cable so there's minimum strain applied to to the thermal tape (ideally there should be none, but that's hard to achieve), or in the long run the sensor WILL come off. Yeah, I found this bit too hard. Also - who wants more cables in their system? In the end 500rpm fa...

I tried with the BigNG and gave up as I couldn't find a way of reliably attaching the sensors to the sinks.

Sorry - just had to chime in. Firstly, I'm not sure debating the validity of the OP's question is helping the OP with his question. It might be valid to say that an SSD would be quieter and you could consider remote storage but I don't feel that abuse is helping the boards to flurrish. Secondly - wh...

Scorpio black and blue

Hi all,

Anyone know why the scorpio black is listed by WD as quieter than the scorpio blue? From threads on here the black can be pretty noisy...

Also - which are the single platter scorpio drives, without this crazy larger segmant thingy that screws up XP.

Thanks,
Chris.

While I will admit mine is next to a 500rpm fan I've found other forums where people are running them passive with good case airflow. I guess it works passively for some and not for others.

Do drives get noisy?

I've had my 2 blue scorpios for around 2 years now. I can hear them through my scythe quiet drives when seeking from 1m with the case under my desk. I'm pretty sure I couldn't when I first bought them but then my other components are quieter now. So - my question is - do hard drives get noisier with...

Just the heating - that I can hear anyway. Don't notice anything with my headphones on really. Only noises I still pick up from my PC are disk-seek and coil whine (only get coil whine when very close to the back). Need new drives as they are nearly 3 years old and I think they've gotten noiser over ...

Just to let everyone know I ended up buying a second hand 5770 with an HR-03 pre-fitted and an unlocked bios. E8200 temps?

Hi all, I'm running an e8200 @ 2.73GHz <1.1V with an IFX-14 and a scythe 500rpm 14cm fan. I get idles of around 42C and load around 58C. This feels much too high. HD 5770 non-reference fits S1?

HIS have a non-reference PCB layout on some of their HD5770 cards - looks like it might fit an S1 which would be pretty cool.

Anyone wanna take a guess?
