Re: Corsair CMPSU-650TX is too noisy

I've replaced mine with Akasa Viper, connected to the psu's fan header (took the connector from the "old" fan, never seen more than 500rpm for the moment). Now that you mention fan speed, I think it would be good to get a psu that regulates fan speed. I don't think the TX does that. How do you moni...

Re: Corsair CMPSU-650TX is too noisy

Thank you for the response. It isn't too late. :)

The psu is making regular fan noise, nothing unusual. Since the case design puts the fan exhaust on the top of the case, I think it is more noticeable than it would be with a case that puts it in the back.

Corsair CMPSU-650TX is too noisy

I just did my first build with a Silverstone FT02 and the Corsair CMPSU-650TX. I love the case but the design seems to make power supply noise more obvious than a traditional case.

Can I make the psu significantly quieter by replacing the fan or do I need a new psu?

Is that done by getting a fan controller for each fan?

Re: Fan speed

I contacted Silverstone tech support and their position is that it is not possible for the fans to run at 240 RPM unless they are being controlled by the motherboard That would be my initial reaction. Only PWM fans can typically go so low. What do you care about the speed? Are you happy with the re...

I have a Silverstone FT02 case. Their web site says the bottom fans run at 700 RPM with the speed switches set to low. According to the monitoring software for my Asus motherboard, I am getting these fan speeds: Bottom rear: 640 RPM Bottom front & middle: 240 RPM I contacted Silverstone tech support...

Re: Silverstone Fortress FT02 ATX Case

I just got this case. I don't understand the purpose of an exhaust fan in a positive pressure case. Good chance to do some testing with and without the exhaust fan, and find out. :) If I were to work up the courage for such a test, what would I actually test? I'd guess that while there is a craploa...

Re: Silverstone Fortress FT02 ATX Case

I don't understand the purpose of an exhaust fan in a positive pressure case. Remove the bottom fans, and you'll see. Granted, one would probably get rid of all fans instead of leaving the top one in, but it is a viable configuration. Then it would be a negative pressure case. I still don't underst...

Re: What is involved in replacing CPU cooler?

You really really don't want the stock cpu cooler. Most people in the US are near a Frys or Microcenter who will do it for you. Microcenter discounts the CPU so much that the discount may pay for most of the cost of the build. Outside the US there are probabaly small shops that can do the same. I l...

Re: What is involved in replacing CPU cooler?

Based on my experience, you should aim for a machine with an AM3 processor. Most AM3 coolers 'grab' a pair of studs connected to the motherboard and use springs or a tension levers to hang onto them. An added bonus is that AM2 and AM2+ coolers use the same mounts. Much easier on your nerves and har...

What is involved in replacing CPU cooler?

I'm not up for building my own computer. So I plan on buying a new computer and upgrading as needed to make it quiet. Replacing fans should be fairly simple but I have no idea what is involved in replacing a cooler.

Have you tried updating the drivers for your video card? If you haven't in the last couple years, you should definitely do this as the widescreen resolutions weren't widely available a couple years ago. I downloaded the latest driver yesterday. There is a resolution that is close but I find that un...

Nearly all new graphics cards supprt 1680x1050. That resolution is widely used on 20-22in monitors. It would be difficult to find a modern card that doesn't support this res. I just got a new monitor at work and my video card doesn't support the 1680 x 1050 native resolution of the monitor. When I look at video cards online I only see the maximum resolution listed. I have the MSI card. Indeed, the main heat sink is on the "back" of the card.
