Something that didn't occur to me until recently, is that the Slipstream is a sleeve bearing fan. Since it is mounted on a Big Shuriken in a HTPC case, it ends up being mounted horizontally. Apparently, mounting a sleeve bearing fan horizontally is a big 'no, no'.
Should I be worried?

No, it was fan noise. The noise stopped once the fan stopped. Newegg should be getting my old card tomorrow. Hopefully they will offer me a different model since they no longer offer the one I purchased. A friend of mine is building a HTPC and purchased an Accelero L2 Pro for his Low Power NVidia 98...

Ramses, how noisy are we talking? I purchased a Powercolor AX5770 1GBD5-DH on boxing day ( http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131326 ). It also appears to use an OEM Arctic Cooling L2 Pro (though smaller). I assumed because of the AC cooling system it would be quiet. At idle I c...

In the same vein, this new PowerColor 5750 (SCS3 AX5750 1GBD5-S3DH) is actually fanless , using something that looks like a custom version of an Acceleso S1 Rev. 2 or Scythe VGA cooler? Anyways, sweet! :) I originally planned to get the Powercolor SCS3 HD 5750 once it was available in my area (whic...

I'm thinking of going with the Powercolor 5750 SCS3 (passive cooling) and strapping on a silent fan. You could also try one of the cards that use the Accelero L2 Pro.. http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_&mID=256 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161...

So according to Tweaktown there was almost no difference in acoustic performance between the regular Sapphire 5750 and the Vapor-X? In addition, the Vapor-X used slightly more power? This is a bit worrisome. =( I was thinking of replacing my HD 4670 with a PowerColor HD 5750 Passive. I would sure like to know if the situation is any better with the passive version vs. the non-passive one mentioned above. It would be a major blunder not to down clock when idling with a passive ca...

I'm in a similar boat. You say the Sapphire 5770 was too loud? I also have a HD 4670 (Powercolor with stock Zerotherm cooler). The card is nearly silent (my system is very quiet and I can't hear it from outside the case). The Idle power is very low and it plays h.264/x.264 1080p videos perfectly with very low CPU utilization (GPU does all the work). I've happil...

Prior to installing the Big Shuriken, I removed the stock fan and hooked it as well as the Slip Stream up to a 12V source. The difference in noise level between the two is significant. The CFM at 12V also felt to be about the same, but that is very subjective. I will have to hope that the CFM measur...

Scythe Big Shuriken stock fan or Slip Stream 120 (800rpm)?
I just received my Big Shuriken via Courier this morning. Along with my shipment I had also ordered a Kaze-Jyuni (Slip Stream) 120mm 800rpm case fan. I don't have a particular use for the Slip Stream, but it was only $7 and didn't increase the shipping amount, so I thought 'what the heck'. Anyway, l...

Darn, it appears that Newegg has discontinued that Powercolor HD 4670 with passive cooling that I linked to above. =(
I guess there is still the HIS, but it is even more money.

I'm also debating between the 4670 and 9600GT. I currently have an 8600GT with passive cooling. My goal is a fairly powerful card that has low temp and low power idle. Did you end up purchasing a 4670? What do you think so far? Another alternative is a DDR3 Geforce 220. Costs less and has lower powe...
