This is WHSv1, not Fail, sorry, Vail (Microsoft have done some changes recently in Vail that the Homer Server community considers as total mistake).
Vail Preview is absolutely not ready to use in production servers.

Re: My WHS, modified Chieftec Mesh, 10 HDDS, 16.0 TB, silent
It's the first time I have heard that this should be a problem. It's a normal way to mount a Psu.
Anyway, it's no problem here. The Cpu is 99.9% of the time doing nothing so heat is no issue.

Thanks for you comment piglover.
I'm aware of the "drive balancer" app, but I see no big reason to install it except for the visual aspect.
I do not want to install lots of programs with possible complications. It's just a simple server, keep it simple..

Just a small update. Added 2 * Samsung SpinPoint F4EG 2TB HD204UI and a HighPoint Rocket 620 2P SATA III controller. Removed the 1 * Samsung 400GB HD401LJ. A total of 10 HDDs with 16 TB. Updated the firmware on the Samsung SpinPoint F4EG HD204UI before installation. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums...

Re: LC17 w/ fan ctrl, Blu-ray, HDMI 1.4, GT 430, Opteron 165
Some weeks before Christmas I bought a new A/V receiver with Hdmi 1.4, a Pioneer VSX-2020 (similar to Elite VSX-33 in the Us). So then I wanted the Htpc to be able to bitstream HD sound and decided for a Nvidia GT 430 as a new videocard / soundcard. Bought a ZOTAC GeForce GT 430 ZONE, perfect for a ...

I bought the Mb a long time ago to use with a Athlon 64 3700+. But a year ago I got the dual core Opteron 165 cheap. I had not use for it then, but with this Htpc it came to use. Even if the Mb and Cpu are old components, the Opteron 165 @2.5GHz and 4GB ram performs very well with Win7 64 bits. It's...

Yes, all side inputs are blocked. It's not welded, but kind of glued. Don't know what it's called in English, but it's similar to Tec7. 2 * 120mm fans are behind the front mesh. That way I have an air direction front -> back over all the Hdds. I have attached a picure of the top fan without the mesh...

My WHS, modified Chieftec Mesh, 10 HDDS, 16.0 TB, silent
Over a year ago I built a new Windows Homer Server. I had to do some work on it now so I took some pictures. The enclosure was an old and heavy Chieftec like this http://www.chieftec.eu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21 The case had a lot of openings on both sides for fans, but none for 1...

I had to replace the video card some weeks ago so I took some pictures as I promised 6 month ago.. There is still 14 storage drives, 1 SSD, 1 DVD and 12 HDDs. The top 8 Hdds are mounted in 2 * Scythe Hard Disk Stabilizer x4. I'm also using it in my WHS and like it. I find the vibrations to be very g...

HTPC LC17 w/ fanctrl, Bluray, HDMI 1.4, GT430, Opteron 165OC
Here is my brand new HTPC with some old, but mostly new components. And one feature I have not seen before with Silverstone LC17 - a fan controller! I spent some time to hide the cables as good as possible. The front panel cables like usb, sound, power, reset and leds are hidden under the motherboar...

Here's a photo I forgot I took just before V.5 was finished. I also forgot the Noctua fan.. Its not pretty and maybe not very usefull but it was something I put there temporarily to maybe cool down the Promise RAID card and the GPU. But it still there if I remember correct. Time will show. http://i1...

kopilu, have a look at the two stickies here about Kingston V-series 40GB:
http://www.overclock.net/ssd/
While it seems complicated it's pretty straight forward and very easy!
You get both Trim support and can use Intel SSD toolbox.

Hello again! :-) I realized that I did not post the latest pictures of v. 4.5. The latest changes some months ago was to softmount to 10th Hdd and replace the 2 remaining Antec fans with Nexus. Had to redo some soldering for the fan controller. I really like the Nexus, not so fan of Noctua.. Should ...

Ran Prime95 with 4 cores for 50 minutes, stock clocking, temps are 46 - 43 - 43 - 43 Cº. Every core fluctates 1-2 degrees. Amazing... Couple of questions. Is that with fans on 12V max? How is the noise level? Blend test in Prime95 or CPU stress test? Very, very nice build. Thanks. I do not rememer...

Nick Geraedts, I made a custom cable with a connector attached to the Led pins on the Raid card. Actually very easy, but I spent some time to built the connector and test the cable. The hardest part was to find the correct leds and resistors so the leds did not shine to bright. Would that happen to...

Luminair, "plastic fan covers"? Do you mean the 2 doors in the front? jedimaster1138, there is no fan in front of the lower hard drive cage, just the one in between. I saw it maybe could be possible to fit a fan in front, but I did not try or gave it very much attention. I guess the closed "tunnell"...
