New Build, A Few Problems

First, thanks for all the help picking componenets. For my budget I picked the following: Antec Solo (hate the silver front but the build quality is great) Corsair VX400 Scythe 500 rpm rear case fan Ninja cooler without fan 3 WD SE drives ECS AMD690 board with athlon BE2300 Cpu (45 watt) M-AUdio 24/...

Solo Case QUestion

I just got the solo case and the instructions say to remove drive cages for suspension mounting...but they don't explain how. The elastics were already assembled when I got it, but it looks to me like the metal sheets between each drive should be removed, yet I don't see how. Also, I understood ther...

Okay, today I finished building my experimental 14" fibreglass cubes (703 fibre) wrapped in two thin layers of quilting batton. The cubes are not ideal bass traps, which would be 705 fibre and about 2 layers, eight foo by two to thee feet, but I can place them anywhere in the room and easily remove ...

Anyone use Room Treatments for Further Noise Reduction?

I'm talking about the kind of room treatments use by music studios for proper recording and mixing of music. These absorb high frequency (or low frequency in the case of bass traps) sounds before they can echo back to your ear. I think that this way you might hear less total noise because you are on...

Antec Solo Fan Replacement

I have just order a new system and plan to replace the system fan in the Solo (the only other fan in the system will be the one in the Corsair VX450 PSU. I ordered a Scythe 500rpm fan because they were all sold out of 800rpm. Will this be able to cool my system even though I will have three WD drive...

Does anyone know any sites that are in or ship to Canada? I'm looking to find some butyl rubber type stuff like edead and some sort of foam to go over top. Boot from SD Card?

For pure silent storage, is it possible to boot from a mermory card? I want to be able to boot into windows 98 to run a low resource application, so the amount of memory would be no issue.

Excuse me, SE16 was WD's naming scheme. Anyway, I suggest you to grab a WD instead of noisy Seagate 7200.10 HDDs.
Typo...I meant to say that I went with WD Se16 instead of my Seagates. Thanks.

I built a rig with a Q6600, Thermalrite Ulta extreme and a Sythe 120mm fan, very quiet and powerful. :D It kills my old AMD 2.4 The DAW does need a lot more power than than a typical computer, running ...

Re: Best CPU for quiet computer

I don't need huge power, but centrinos and semprons are not going to do the trick for a DAW computer. Let me ask that you educate me, CrazyOx: is a video card required for DAW, or can integrated graphics suffice? What % of the time will be spent in DAW use? Will any dual-core CPU work (the lowest-c...

Of all the current pentium and amd 64x2 CPUs, which barnd and model is the best for running silent ie. least heat produced thus less cooling needed. I don't need huge power, but centrinos and semprons are not going to do the trick for a DAW computer.

Re: Is this the right WD Harddrive

I have a Western Digital drive marked WD800JB Cavier SE. Western Digital has been selling "WD800JB" since early 2002 . They keep using the same model number for vastly different drives. All the part number tells you is that "800"=80GB, "J"=PATA(EIDE), 8MB cache (="SE"), "B" = 7200rpm. I have a seve...

Did you mwan that the p180 is quieter for DAW or the p182...I got a little mixed up when you said only p180 had dampening.

I was under the impression that the p182 is made of a triple ply chassis and that the plastic middle layer eacts as a sound absorber and vibration deadener.

1. The 182 is bigger, has a front door, lower power supply / hard drive mounting area, and better cable management. The Solo has a single tri-cool 120mm exhaust (and optional 2x92mm intake fans). If you are going to change fans then this should not be part of your decision. 2. Probably but I would ...

Help: Difference between Antec Solo and 182

1) I am wondering what makes the 182 about $60 more than the 182.
