Re: New SPCR design & management
Good to see things up again. Not gonna waste time with sentimental stuff. Let's just say you have big shoes to fill. A few things: 1) This content is still relevant. A couple recent personal examples: - I bought a 2080 Super recently (EVGA Black; 08G-P4-3081-KR). There is almost no content out there...

...do I dare the impossible? Try to retrofit her for modern, quiet computing??? I would, in fact I did and my PC is in the very similar ACTS 201. Very quiet at idle with fans 300 (140mm) to 600rpm (80mm) Load is still quiet, but not dead silent, and I'm not running low end hardware either, at the t...

Man, I wish CoolerMaster would return to its roots. You know what I'm talking about, before they built "gaming" cases to appease the teenage boy rice rocket "gamer" demographic. Just simple, sleek, and beautiful. Like the old ATC-110: http://www.hardwareluxx.de/Images/Coolermaster/ATC110/02070003.jp...

Re: Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W PSU
I just bought a Seasonic Platinum 400 power supply. I installed it in my PC which otherwise has no moving parts. The power supply is not silent at all, and clearly some of the electrical components are vibrating. Unlike other people here, I can hear mine from all the way across a room (25 feet away...

Re: "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
I've found I can't really "pull" the mounts through for fear of snapping the ends off. I just grabbed 'em with a needle nosed pliers and pulled - I had faith in their elasticity and strength. That is a good idea, especially if you grab them in the "meaty" part near the base. Nice tip, I think I'll ...

Congrats on your build. Yeah, the Antec fan mounts were a challenge...but only had to do it once. :D I'm for sure not looking forward to that again! I've found I can't really "pull" the mounts through for fear of snapping the ends off. So I use the metal tip of a 5mm mechanical pencil to help push ...

Re: "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
Hi guys, I just thought I’d give an update here since it’s been awhile. I have ordered all my parts and have built this whole rig completely out. Unfortunately, I have run into a somewhat-common R4 problem whereby the “door clips” on the case require replacement. In short the ones that shipped with ...

Re: "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
At 1920x1200, the only possible game that could use up more than 2GB or vram is something like the high rez download packs for Skyrim. If you were running >1440p, then extra memory is useful. Is there a downside to extra vram? It'll use more power. Maybe 20W-30W when in 3D mode. Will this mean a hi...

Re: "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
One thing I was thinking of, regarding the MSI card. I know MSI has a 4GB version of the GTX 760 as well as a 2GB version . Both are offering rebates right now, $20 and $10, respectively, as well as a free copy of Watch Dogs which looks super-cool. Is there ANY reason to believe that the 4GB version...

How much space is between the top of your memory and the very bottom of your fan on the Macho? Would you mind terribly measuring for me? Re: "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
It's not a matter of being "fancy". If you use optical or HDMI for the audio, you bypass the analog circuitry on the motherboard, rely upon the Logitech or Receiver to do so, and there's very little benefit to using a sound card. If you don't bypass the analog circuitry, there MAY be benefit to the...

Re: "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
I don't think you need the sound card at all. 1) Run the optical output on the motherboard to your Logitech system. Run DVI from the video card to your Dell monitor. 2) The TV side: either, a) Run HDMI from the video card to your A/V Receiver. Run HDMI from the Receiver to your TV. Or, b) Run HDMI ...

I appreciate, again, the responses. All this info is very helpful! My only concern is that it might get too close to the bottom intake fan position on the R4. "Value" gaming/general use build suggestions, please
I would like some evaluation of my current planned build. I’m coming from an E7400 Core 2 Duo on a P45 chipset board and a GeForce GTS 250. Right now I’m fairly pleased with the Z97 and Haswell refresh options. This is clearly a substantial upgrade for me and I want to keep my build decently quiet. ...

Re: Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W PSU
Any updates on this, is anyone experiencing any kind of problems or have they all been resolved either with newer units sold by Seasonic or obtained via RMA? Any luck with BIOS settings? Also, while the unit in the review is the "SS-520FL2" I have noticed an "SS-520FL" being sold as well. I assume t...

I didn't see anyone mention this as an upgrade option, but maybe offer one of the new Raptors sans the "Icepak" or whatever, since the system already uses a 2.5" drive?
