Re: Fanless VESA-mounted HTPC (Akasa Euler) w/ ethernet swit
Hi Murtoz, sorry missed your replies before - been away for a couple of months. Thanks for the compliments! I had to check the photo because I was thinking "pretty sure I hadn't bought my HTPC's keyboard when I took those shots", and - sure enough I hadn't. Sorry to say that's just a replacement key...

Re: How good was IBM OS/2 in 90s
El Reg ran an excellent set of articles on OS/2 round about this time last year.

Fanless VESA-mounted HTPC (Akasa Euler) w/ ethernet switch
(Most pics: click for big version) Hi folks, Been a while since I posted a build on here, mostly because I haven't done one for a while. Not a silent one anyway - most of my builds are quickies for other people and (despite my attempts to convince them otherwise) silence is never high on their list...

Re: Intel DQ77KB: A Low Power LGA1155 Motherboard
Hi all, I bought this board on the strength of reports that the green line out jack of the Realtek ALC892 audio subsystem is a combo mini-TOSlink port (e.g. m3libra's response here - linked earlier in this very thread) but am having difficulty getting that particular 'undocumented feature' to work :...

Hasn't been the most highly publicised netbook but from what I can see, the Latitude 2100 has actually been available since around May and plenty of comments suggest it has a fan. So is this an updated version or something? Don't know, I took the Register Hardware reviewer's word for it when he sai...

Also, how effective are these mods? Did changing the fan help substantially? As effective as you make them really. The Adda ball bearing fan is basically THE noise source, so replacing it with a much quieter one will make a really effective mod. I agree with new2spcr - the baffle is there for a rea...

I think Corsair wanted to give the HX units ultimate reliability, and plumped for the slightly louder (but presumably longer-life) ball bearing fan option. Makes sense if it keeps claims on the 7 year warranty to a minimum, especially since the vast majority of users would still consider it "silent"...

I've got 2x2GB Dominator with FSB overclocked to run @ 1:1, stock timings, and I haven't had any problems during use, but I have always had the occasional boot hang (maybe once or twice a month) ever since I built the machine :? It also became unstable under load (video transcoding) when, after havi...

And yeah, Abit is now completely bought, and their PC components business wound down, so I think we're on our own :( If the PC business was also bought, and the buyer just shut it down, they still need to honor warranties? To OP: You shouldn't have any trouble with the retailer, I think we have pre...

This is the first I've heard of this, but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on mine in future. Just out of interest, how old is your board and have you any idea what its total uptime is? It's just over a year since I replaced my original Pro with an XE (not so much of an upgrade as I had the opportun...

Don't know who said it, but I think it's absolutely true that "time you've enjoyed wasting hasn't been wasted", which reminds me of being sent to tidy my room when I was little. I'd be found hours later sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by books and comics, away in another world with the...
