Re: Quiet Mini-ITX Gaming Build Guide #2: NCASE M1 Edition

I built an NCASE gaming machine for Christmas, and it was the first Micro ITX build that I actually enjoyed. It is amazing what you can cram into that case. I used EVGA GTX 970 ref card with the blower style cooler (model 1970) and was able to fit a full 750W ATX PSU (non-modular) because this versi...

Re: Planned Green ITX BUild

Hyper 212 is like four inches too tall for the case. Xeon E3-1225 95 watts TDP is far less efficient than the Xeon E3-1225V2 at 77W. Case has severerly restricted airflow for 3 HDD's with or without extra fan and cheaply made (I used it once and will never again due to broken parts). Spinup on three...

Re: PicoPSU vs external DC power brick

PicoPSU's also use an external AC/DC brick, so it's all about the brick wrt to efficiency. You'll have more flexibility to choose your own brick with a picoPSU rather than a bundled brick with a MB. But with a typical picoPSU your MB is subject to the quality of the 12V brick output since the picoPS...

Re: Haswell rumors?

I think its probably because Haswell isn't a major change from Ivy Bridge, Intel call Haswell a tock so there isn't as many changes as when going to new a architecture. Or do i have my ticks and tocks mixed up  Haswell is a Tock, but Tocks bring the new architecture. In this case the Tock brin...

If you want a Winmate, better act fast becasue Electrodacus indicated he's selling out inventory due to time constraints. The 24V connector is INPUT ONLY unless you use it to daisy chain to a second Winmate powered by a single 200W+ brick (there's an entire thread here on that subject). Here's an eb...

I went through the same process looking for various brick capacities and it's apparently not a formal standard or not one that is strictly adhered to....the polarity is sometimes reversed, so be sure and test it before powering up the board.

Re: Suggestions for small microATX case similar to CM Elite

It's likely the vibrations & rattles were due to my mounting of fans and HDD. Also I did not take any further silencing measures since I was under the budget and time gun. I like the idea of magnetic sheets, expecially since I have some laying around that were used for truck signage. And best of all...

I built a system for a friend using the 341 to save some money, but you get what you pay for and the Elite is a signicant step below the Antec 3480 which I have for one of my home systems. The Elite developed rattles, so you'll have to be very carefull with hdd and fan mouting. The 3480 is much quie...

In a small case the D510 will overheat without airflow. At first I had in in a Coolermaster Elite 100 and it was crash city until added two 40MM fans, UV'd, both intakes. Re: What to do with D510MO?

I used a D510 in a touchscreen jukebox. I just added a class D amp and a good internal DAC in a slightly modded Silverstone Grandia case. The power supply was tricky, but the setup powers the MB, DVD, HDD, DAC, amp and an 8" touchscreen. The D510 works great with no audible EMI on the DAC or amp.......

You could start with one Winmate 130 watt supply and a 220 watt brick and add second Winmate once you add HDD's. That's how I am powering my HTPC. The 12v supply from the Winmate is higher quality than a pico psu in any case. See this link for a how-to: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic...

BTX was an Intel-promoted standard that never caught on due to several factors. The main factor was the high cost to MB manufacturers to redesign the well-understood ATX standard. Your write speeds are higher due to RAM caching so the read speeds are a better indication of NAS performance. The theoretical maximum is 1000Mb/s and you are only hitting 18% of that. Some swtiches will reduce entire gigabit networks to 10/100 speeds when one client is 10/100, and you would have to...
