Maybe lm-sensors is wrong, but mine idles on 1.1V I believe.

What I really don't like is the fact that my PSU draws 20W in soft off :( So I'm not so sure about its efficiency at very low loads, really.

I tend to see the baseline as being with Speedstep/CnQ enabled, the next level is with software undervolting and the final level is with BIOS under-volting. Well there are no adjustments for undervolting I can find in the BIOS of this board. Asus has really skimped on BIOS features. As for software...

Fan control works pretty well, on lowest settings my Freezer 64 Pro runs at 1000RPM on idle, 1300 under load and 1500 with CPUburn (cooling a BE 2400). It does run fans with 3 pin just fine, can't remember whether fan control worked (I believe it did) with those though. I just hooked the two case fa...

Where to get 120W bricks for PicoPSU?

I'm somewhat unhappy with the Etasis EFN300 in my HTPC. While it is rock solid and totally silent, it draws 20W AC even when the machine is turned off. The whole machine uses 35W in Idle with this PSUænd I can't help but wonder if this is wasting 20W... So I've been wondering whether I should get a...

I may be missing something but even when testing the PSU open bench at 25° it would have to dissipate its own heat, no? So the point would be reduced to the fact that the PSU will, in general, have higher temperature at the in take than open bench testing provides it. (This is not insurmountable, A...

HTPC: Silverstone LC17 + Asus M3N78 + BE 2400

So I finished my HTPC. Thanks for all the pointers. And special thanks to Mikael for insisting I try another PSU besides the Seasonic S12 which would not boot the machine! In the LC17S I put a Asus MCP78 M3N78 board powered by 1GB KVR800 and an AMD BE 2400 which is cooled with a Arctic Freezer 64 Pr...

How to lower brightness of annoying case LEDs?

I have built a HTPC in a Silverstone LC17 and while I'm very content with the setup now, there is one thing that deeply disturbs me. The blue power and HD LEDs are glaringly bright in day time and even more so at night. Is there any good way (preferably without having to solder resistors) to lower t...

It's late and I only read parts of it, but it is somewhat surprising that it would power an Epia 6000 just fine... Or maybe Asus had initial power draw that low that it really went way below that.

Asus M3N78 does not POST

So I went and bought my HTPC components. An Asus M3N78-EMH, Athlon BE 2400, KVR800D2N5 1GB Kingston RAM. Hooked it up to a Seasonic S12 and while the fans spin up and the leds glow, the board does not output anything on either VGA or DVI and not even do any POST beeps... :( Anything I can do? (no I ...

Well I like the LC17 (I'd like it more if there was one USB port that was not stealthed like the Antec has it). I'm pretty sure I can get it to run near silent with a nforce 8200 and a 45W Athlon. That means dissipating about 70W at load which should not be very hard especially as I'm not at all fus...

I don't think you understood.. the side vents are where the exhaust fans are, if you block them there won't be any airflow going through the case.

Actually I'm impartial between positive and negative pressurized cases (I have done both, it largely depends on the case which one I prefer). If the Antec can provide enough airflow with the side vents blocked then this is good enough for me. I like the design of the Fusion but I can't say I'm prepa...

Shaman: I don't really mind fans at the bottom or visible ones, I just need the airflow not to rely on the side vents. I'm leaning toward the Silverstone LC17 now (as pricey as it is) because the Antec has no stealth DVD bays... The Thermaltake DH101 or Mozart 4000 would be another option but I can'...

Media PC Case with ATX PSU and Front to Back Airflow

I'm looking for a media PC case (we used to call them desktops many years back :) ) with front intakes to allow front to back airflow good enough for cooling a MCP78 or AMD 780G board with an at most 65WCPU. Beacause of the size of my current "rack", airflow from the side is very restricted. I also ...

According to the review at Tom's, you get by with a Sempron 3500+ for bluray. It peaks at about 90% though. (Tho I'd wish they had gone for BBC Planet Earth, that's about the worst you can throw at a bluray player I believe)

I shall wait until 780G becomes available, then. If the board is sufficiently low power in idle I may just use it as NAS, too.

I'm sorry for the flood, not sure what happened.

Lowest power HTPC capable of decoding 1080p Bluray content

I'm trying to build a low-power HTPC that is able to decode Bluray content (which is troublesome due to the exorbitant hardware requirements of 1080p h.264). My main focus is on it being low power to keep it silent. (please do not suggest to buy a PS3) I'm wondering if a Celeron 420 or Sempron 1200 ...

I have ordered one after it dropped in price for another 10% compared to the SATA drive. It did not yet arrive though.

In Europe they seem to come with 2 year warranty which is good enough, after 2 years the things will be so cheap that a RMA will be hardly worth it anymore.

I have a 120GB Hitachi 5400RPM in my notebook running Kubuntu and I find it plenty fast. Due to the higher areal density, larger drives should provide faster transferrates anyway.

Buying a 1TB Mybook Essential to get a 1TB Green Power disk?

In Switzerland, 1 TB WD Mybook Essential is roughly 10% cheaper than the bare 1TB Green Power which I'm 99% sure is inside of the Mybook (seeing that WD has no other 1TB drive, what else would there be in it?) Has anyone removed the drive from its enclosure without destroying it in the process (I wo...

You may want to take a look at http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cf ... o=A4842001#
it's still VIA (i.e. slow but low power), but it comes with two PCI slots and slightly bigger than Mini ITX. Price is right in any case.
