Cost effective NAS solution

I'm having trouble figuring out a cost effective and secure way of creating a backup. I bought 3 - 4tb easystores but haven't opened any yet. I was going to get a qnap or Synology but that's another $400 min. Totaling about 700-900 depending on Plex capability. What if I get a my cloud duo 12 or 16t...

Re: HDD Dead?

Also, if the "SNDK 120" means it's a mSATA or M.2 NVME SSD, make sure it doesn't share lanes with a SATA controller. One might be turning off the other. This drive is no longer active. My Windows disk is a Samsung evo 500GB ssd. It's the only drive currently plugged into the motherboard. The 3tb in...

HDD Dead?

My 3TB Seagate drive suddenly disappeared from the My Computer menu a week ago. I decide to recheck the connections and nothing; not in BIOS or Windows. I try putting it in an external dock and still not recognized (dock works with other drives). I feel the drive is powered up as there is vibration ...

What audio format to record concert in

I'd like to record a concert for future playback. I'll be using an iphone. The possible formats are m4a, mp3, caf, wave, mp4, aac.
Space isnt an issue as its a new phone.

Which would give me the best quality and possible reduce the inevitable rustling noises?

I have a wood floor and my pc is directly on it. There is a tiny amount of vibration but only within inches.
I'd just put rubber shoes on the pc and you wont have to worry about dust which loves carpets.

Re: Windows virus infect Android?

I would be wary, since Android is common, and the virus might have a variant version? Here's what I would do: download a Linux ISO file (I would suggest Ubuntu) and make a bootable disk (or USB drive?). Boot to that, and then use the suspected USB drive, and copy the files you need to the hard driv...

Add more RAM before prices go way up?

Since RAM prices are going up, should i buy more now? I dont do anything too intensive and am generally fine with my 16gb. I usually have 2-4GB available after my chrome tabs. Another 16 would cost $120 https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Ripjaws-288-Pin-Desktop-F4-2666C15D-16GVR/dp/B013J7LQYO/ref=sr_1_8...

Wall AC replacement

Im a bit dull about AC technologies but understand that wall sleeves require wall ACs. The current sleeve is 27 x 16.5 x 17 deep. My understanding is that i can get any wall unit as long as it fits and if there's space i need a frame to fill in the gaps. I was recommended the Friedrich Wallmasters h...

Honestly, he'd be fine with an i3. Go for an i5 if you want to splurge. The 4xxx series are nearly three year old CPUs. Yikes..Dell doesn't allow any configurability in their builds. Here's the stuff I'd look for in a build: Skylake i3 or i5 8GB RAM (no need for 16GB given his use case) iGP (is fas...

Probably easier to just copy the DVD to the USB key, copy from the USB to the hard drive on the laptop and then install as normal from the laptop hard drive. By definition a DVD is less than 5Gb so a cheap 8Gb USB drive will be enough to do it. Thanks i totally missed that i can just copy the insta...

Yes it's the default. When i play a file, the sound bar in the playback tab moves according to the sound that should be coming from the speakers.

The sound just randomly stopped working last week. I wasn't moving the case or anything.

How do i figure out if my sound card is busted?

I bought the Asus Xonar DG about 2 yrs ago.

The speakers work fine of other devices.
Under system devices, the sound card is operating properly.

What else can i run to see if it's ok?

Re: router connected. no internet connection

The wall outlet is probably already supplying a internet connection. If so, you need to set up the Linksys wrt54g v8 as an Access Point, not a Router. I don't know about the Linksys but normally setting up a router as an access point involves turning off DHCP and changing the IP address of the rout...
