I think the main reason was because they were a distraction. This is a mature forum and if I recall correctly, some people were abusing their avatar privileges. Also in retrospect it made the forum look a lot less 'classy'.

Plextor gets my vote, hands down. If you can afford it, and require the precision, the Plextor is the way to go.

I'm interested in this as well. I have the same mobo (rev 1.04) and a SLK-800A. I am thinking about upgrading to the SP-97 but wonder how well it really fits, and if its a significant improvement over the 800.
