I don't usually post stuff after reading articles but I just wanted to give special props for this review. You correctly identified a trend for desktop CPU's to be getting smaller (SSD market may factor into this trend as well). Your work helps us consumers judge what our best options are in this de...

this is very exciting news. Also, the fact that it is Halogen-free and thus could now be used by Apple has the potential to increase volume and lower price more down the road. I may not be content with 80GB storage, these don't have to be for storage. Intel's SSD could be the drive with all my OS an...

At least here DDR2 and DDR3 cost about the same; upgrading a motherboard with support for either type of RAM will not have an effect on total price. How's the situation there? DDR2 is still cheaper although that's changing as DDR3 drops. If this was a DDR3 system I would stick with 4GB or less and ...

some of these power figures have me confused as well. The article here at SPCR used the E7200 as their comparison Intel CPU - this CPU is no longer on the market and has been subceded by processors with higher clock speed (and higher power draw?) such as the E7400, E7500, and E7600. Meanwhile, the a...

You may want to consider upgrading a little on the CPU end. this page at AnandTech I found interesting, essentially you may want to look at either the new E6300 or, if possible, the E7500 for a boost in cache/speed. Also the review at Anand is mainly discussing the new AMD processors. You may want t...

thanks for the replies, guys. at this moment I sort of like more the enermax for the quietness, maybe I'll go for the 425w since it is cheaper. both the corsair and the enermax have 5 years warranty. btw, is it possible that the 425w version won't be as quiet as the 625w model reviewed by spcr? pos...

Post Your Workstation setup
I'd like to see some pics of everyone's (silent) computers in their (silent!) workstation environments. Mostly for inspiration, I suppose. Unfortunately as a college student with only a laptop, I don't have any pics to post at the moment. Perhaps someone else could start us off with some pictures? :)

thanks very much both of you for the advice. The 3650 review was quite helpful. I'll discuss the budgeting of the PC with my friend (who this is for) and if he can manage to afford the 9600GT, we'll definitely pick up one of those. If we can't budget that in, then we simply just can't! At that point...

These are the two that I'm looking at: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813128337 and Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813128078 I already own the DS3...

needing a low-budget, silent, decent gaming card
Now for some details. This will be for a budget PC build, used for some gaming and some photoshop/video editing. I was hoping to keep the video card around $75. Most of the games being played on this will be of the older variety. Since the budget is so low, I figured adding an Accelero S1 or other s...

to better address how to quiet it down, please tell us where exactly is the loudest source of unwanted noise? The video card or CPU? Case fan? To get better temps with the same or less noise: I'd definitely recommend replacing the exhaust fan in the back with an aftermarket 120mm fan. See the recomm...

so, the Antec Solo is now $45 after shipping and rebates. I'd like to use it on my dad's PC which consists of: loud aluminum case, with 2 high-RPM 8cm side fans and a window above them silent by comparison Mushkin PSU (modular) E6300 and stock cooling (no OC) ATI x1950pro with some past heat issues ...

also the 3xxx series, which might be better for a low-budget build than the midrange 7xxx series.

Unless you all think it's the antec fan making the loud noise. I think it's the card though. if you gently put your finger in the middle of the (antec) fan, it'll stop it from spinning. Don't do it for long, just a few seconds, to make sure it's not the main noisemaker. But it's very likely to be y...

1. From some of the articles I've seen, you may want to combine your motherboard with an ATI card. The new 780G hybrid chipset combines the power of the integrated graphics with that of the dedicated card for optimum graphics performance. So, maybe consider a card such as the ATI Radeon HD 3450? It ...
