I am having airflow problems using a P182. I currently running 2 Noctua S12s for the top and rear exhaust. I am using a Ninja and added the stock fan that came with the Ninja, but it did not help a lot. Temps are high inside the case, causing the CPU to go over 60°C. I think I am having an "air sho...

Found this topic about airflow on a P182: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46466&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= I am going to try some of those suggestions: 1. Remove the plastic doors that cover the inlets in the front of the case. 2. Block the top exhaust, remove t...

The system is not stable under load. While playing various games, the system crashed with blue screens. It was usually 20 to 30 minutes playing. I noticed that there is hardly any flow of air coming out of the top and back fans. I opened the front case door of the P182 and some flow of air could be ...

Added the fan included in with the Ninja. It was spinning at ~1200 RPM and was a bit noisy. I took the ULN adapter from one of the S12 fans and installed it on the Ninja fan. That fan is now spinning at ~550 RPM and is less noisy. Surprisingly, the Noctua S12 is still very quiet without the ULN adap...

The temps are in Celsius, I mistyped it. I edited my previous posting to correct it. I tested by running a game, World of Warcraft. The first temp did not move, it stayed at 66°C. The other one went from 53°C to 56°C. The 66°C does not move at all, it seems fixed. The other one varies from 52°C...

Are you using the bolt-through kit? Is your motherboard vertically oriented? I am using a bolt-through kit. I am not sure how I would "sit" or install it differently, as I just place it over the CPU, then tightened the screws in a cross pattern (top left, bottom right, bottom left, top right). I wil...

Re: Case, motherboard and power supply for an E8400 build?
- I do not plan to over clock, but I'd like the motherboard to support a 4:3 ratio to be able to run the memory at 1000 with the E8400 1333 FSB. Even in 4:3 mode the RAM would "only" run at 888Mhz. I doubt you would realise a difference to the synchronous (1:1) mode without using artificial benchma...

I ended up getting a Ninja and 2 Noctua S12 fans. I just finished installing them. The 2 S12 fans are running at ~600 RPM using the ULN adapter. They are installed on the top and back of the case, with the air flowing out of the case. I am not using a heatsink fan on the Ninja as I am hoping to go f...

Awesome, thanks for helping me Oxygen! I want quiet, so I will go with the not overclocking option. E8400 on DS3R on P182 going with: Noctua 120mm NF-S12 800RPM + Scythe NINJA PLUS Rev.B + LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit Can I also replace all three (3) 120mm case fans with the same Noctua 120mm NF-S12 800RPM ...

I was not planning to overclock the E8400. I was hoping for a quick and easy fan replacement for the stock heatsink, to avoid having to take the system apart and minimize downtime. However, if there are no feasible choices to do this "quick fan replace" and keep it quiet and cool, and I need to take...

Will the Scythe Ninja work on a Gigabyte DS3R? I have been waiting a week to get an Ultra120, but it is still out of stock on Newegg. The stock Intel fan is noisy and is driving me mad. I am willing to purchase anything that will cool an E8400 quietly that I can get this week. Scythe Ninja + bolt-th...

I received the parts yesterday and built the system. It is much more quieter than the SX38. That's not surprising though. I forgot about the CPU cooler! The SX38 includes its own CPU cooler, so I did not factor that in. The stock Intel CPU cooler for the E8400 is quite noisy. The noise it makes soun...

I read about all those issues with WHS. The concept in WHS is nice, but the design seems flawed. If you are computer savvy, the right choice is to build a Linux file server, in my opinion. There are guides from start to finish and once it is set, it requires very little intervention. The server was ...

Found more information on the different letters used in the model number for the Gigabyte boards. "E" seems to denominate "Dynamic Energy Saver". "C" seems to denominate "Combined DDR2 and DDR3". "R" is obviously "RAID". "L" is for "low-end", i.e. no RAID and other fancy features. "P" ... I do not k...

Awesome guys! I have purchased more expensive boards in the past and en up not using most of the extra features. For example, an Abit MAX2 board with Firewire 800 over 6 years ago. Never used it. After sleeping on it, I am leaning towards the DS3L. I can use my MacBook Pro for Firewire or buy a low ...

Thanks for the advice! The 8800GT is a PNY. I have not heard the fan over the loudness of the SX38P2. However, if I am gaming, I do not mind the noise. And the PNY looks slim and small compared to other 8800GTs I saw. How large is the Antec P182? While I like the compactness of the SFF cube, quiet i...

Case, motherboard and power supply for an E8400 build?
I have decided to replace a very noisy Shuttle SX38P2 SFF case/mobo/PSU with something that is more quiet. I already have the CPU, memory (DDR2-1000) and video card (8800GT). I have been using SFFs for 5 years now and the previous ones (XC EZ18, iDEQ 210p, etc.) were relatively quiet. This new one s...

From what I've read on the WHS forums hardware RAID doesn't play well with WHS. Maeby I should look into a Linux solution. I think I just install the WHS trial and see if I like it. I was considering WHS to migrate from my Linux file server. Linux (Gentoo) ran without reboot or problems for 2 years...

I read this message from a user comment on Newegg: Other Thoughts: Although this unit is not the quietest unit I have ever heard, it is also not by a longshot the loudest. I still give it a 5, but I think buyers should be aware of the potential for noise. I think much of the noise is from the PSU fa...

Thanks mttcrlsn. I do not mind the noise when the system is under load, like when playing a game. I am concerned with the noise level when browsing or editing a document. If the SP35P2 is not noisy when idle, then I will replace my SX38P2 with it. I am using almost the same components you listed in ...
