For the info for those of you who were reading this thread, I got a WD 4TB Red and it does exactly what I hoped. Brings the volume of the system, not quite silent but close enough to not be worried about it. The Black is relegated to backup duty.

I can cope without a 7200rpm drive to be honest. It's mostly a media/documents drive anyway.
