Re: Antec Kühler H20 620 & 920 CPU Water Coolers

I always thought that water cooling did not stack up against a good air cooled setup with the noise perspective thrown in. Good to see confirmation. If you are willing to buy all your own parts (not a kit or all in 1 like this one), and spend hundreds of dollars and hours and hours of research you ...

Re: PicoPSU for fileserver?

Well ive ordered a pico 120w wide input (12-25v input), should arrive early next week, and the 19v adaptor mentioned that JohnyGuru's roundup linked earlier. My current setup has 5 3.5" HDD's and a conventional PSU tied to a single core sempron. As i said, it settles around 80-82w, but at startup pe...

From my original plans i am changing them to 3x 3TB drives most likely. With 3 5400rpm drives i shouldnt think th...

Re: PicoPSU for fileserver?

Follow up question, rather thatn start a new thread. Does anyone have cable lengths for the PicoPSU's (120w version most likely ill be buying), just want to know if everything will fit ok on my board and case. I know when SPCR reviewed it they measure length but its quite an old review, a more curre...

Re: Intel Core i3-2100T & Core i5-2400S Low Power CPUs

As others have pointed out, at stock there is no real reason to get the low power derivatives of SB chips, they are all very power efficient anyway. But if the 2100T can undervolt even further on a mid ranged H67 board, could be worth the $10 extra. Either way, i was very tempted to get one until i ...

Re: A Silent and very powerful PC for less than 1,000 GBP

Thoughts: Your RAM is expensive. Any DDR3 speed you wont notice the difference at the same capacity unless you are a liquid hydrogen overclocking type. You can save £40 by buying 1333mhz and the performance difference is probably less than 1%. The motherboard is really expensive. Why do you need a r...

Re: need help with i7-2600k/6950 2GB based multipurpose comp

If you are spending that money, why not get a decent CPU cooler (check the recommended list), and maybe some better fans for the case? It wont add that much to the overall system cost, but make things far more pleasent to your ears. I suggest if you are not intending to use the PC for things like me...

Does anyone have a list of single platter 320GB 2.5" drives? Or even better a site with a list of all the common models and platter count? WD has some decent spec info on their site, but it doesnt mention platter count or density.

Re: Best energy efficient monitor?

I have a 27" HannsG thats a few years old. As you can imagine cheap, large screens arent the most power efficient. Mine sits at 70w(!) at 45% brightness. Bit scary to be honest, when watching a movie, my PC uses less power than the monitor displaying it, but i cant give up my 27" of real estate so u...

Re: PicoPSU for fileserver?

All the m-ATX boards ive looked at have 5 SATA ports.

Back on topic though, is there any reason a single PicoPSU (100 or 120w most likely) wont run a system like the one i am building with 4+ HDD's?

Re: PicoPSU for fileserver?

So if the peak wattage of everything seems fine then there is no other issue i would have to worry about with having so many HDD's connected at once? I can get a e-350 and 2GB of RAM for around £115 right now, the cheapest SB setup i can do is around £160, and it only has 4 SATA ports, so i would ne...

PicoPSU for fileserver?

I mentioned this in another thread (here) , but need a more specific answer so came here. My plan is to have a small fileserver/HTPC that will use an AMD 'hudson' e-350 board (the new all in 1 atom rival that SPCR reviewed not to long ago). I will be having at least 4 HDD's 5400rpm HDD's connected. ...

I don't think you'd need two picos. But don't quote me on that. Make a thread with a more specific title in the appropriate section if you have doubts after searching the forum's archives. Re: HTPC / Fileserver combo, low power a must!

Are you sure you'd need a new CPU? I doubt it. But the cheapest Zacates are priced low enough so yeah, why not? Note that there is a low-power version of that (named Ontario) but availability and pricing was terrible last time I looked. My current fileserver CPU and board are well overdue a gold wa...

200mm fans?

A recent trend in large cases coming out now seem to be to stick a 200mm fan on top or as the intake. All compact drive enclosures will transfer roughly the same vibration levels since they are all hardmounted within the enclosure (needed since they dont have any active cooling so need to use the enclosure as a heatsink).

Very nice setup. I would have maybe tried to get a lower CPU HS in there, although the one you used is pretty damn small in most systems. And i would have used a slimline DVD drive. Screw the extra cost, that would all be about making it look nicer.
