New reviews about interesting hardware
The last time (4 months) I only see reviews about stuff I don't care about. When I make a list: Cases: 9/30 (way too much) complete systems: 3/30 Miscellaneous devices: 8/30 (too much) sound-producing devices: 7/30 (not enough, please no cheap watercooling or GPU without aftermarket cooling) Info-ar...

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
i had both 7850 asus direct cuii and msi geforce 660 msi is way quieter I'm taking aftermarket coolers (always). So my choice of GPU-brand isn't based on the cooler, it's more about reliability and overclock-potential. I've never had any problems with Asus, but I'm not affraid to try another brand....

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
Assuming you really need 750W, you're better off with a 850W or kilowatt PSU than two PSUs -- the latter requires a specialized case, etc. The Platinum Kingwin & Seasonic models are probably tops for noise... and heat. I've got a Cooler Master Stacker STC-101 (I've own it for about 5 years, I think...

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
Can't anybody make clear what's the difference between the Samsung 830 and Samsung 840 pro in real-life situations?
I see trace-based benchmarks, what do these exactly mean? Is that a simulation of real-life use?

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
I'm planning to get a dual GPU setup within a year. The 650 watt max, I could agree with that, but if the cards get OC'ed, the power consumption will significantly rise. That's why I think the system will need about 750 watt max.

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
I've rethought about the PSU. I've checked the power consumptiion of crossfire HD7970 OC, and have even seen >800 watts. They've used a i7 extreme with X79, so there is about 50 watts/100 watts added power, I guess. I'm placing my bets on 750 watts power consumption max. I'm not aware of any PSU tha...

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
I've searched for the higher power model of the super flower series, there are options which are more powerful, but the rating is 80-plus gold instead of platinum, so more heat dissipation and I think a higher sound-level. I have also found 1 platinum edition, but that's the kilowatt edition and cos...

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
The ASUS Radeon 7870 w/DirectCU II has been reviewed here at SPCR The DirectCU II on the HD7950 is a dual-slot cooler, so could perform a lot better. But I still think it would perform silent (but still not unhearable) when idling and doing the vacuum-cleaner under load. Without any measurements by...

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
If you take an Asus DC2-card, you probably don't need the HR03, as these cards are said to be whisper quiet. I would take the DirectCU II card from Asus. Do you have any trustworthy reference? I'm going for sub 15dB (under load), and I've never heard of ANY standard-cooler that's is silent when str...

supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer
Hi, I'm wanting to build a new system, with a combination of new & old components. The system will be mainly used for gaming, surfing and workflow (photo-editing). I want the system to be powerful enough for about four years (except the gaming part, but that will be solved with crossfire in the futu...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
up until the motherboard died on me last night, during idle (login prompt on ubunutu 11.04) it was consuming 38-39 watts according to my killawatt meter and I have a i7-2600K, 2x4GB of DDR3-1333C9, a single hard drive, and a 80 Plus Gold power supply. And later: he uses an 400 watt seasonic fanless...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
I mentioned a HTPC I missed an "n", does that make my english bad? I think it's more than a bit OT affair as well a bit difficult to express in a second language but, as you don't understand, I will try myself to explain better. No, an "n" doesn't, but maybe some general attitude might do, if in ca...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
Are you going to do any decoding on the htpc/server? If not, a dual core would save you some money and would still be fast enough for quite a long time. Concerning the motherboard: the previous generation Intel dh55 ended up the most power efficient board in it`s class (at idle at least) and the mi...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
Citate: "The P67 chipset seems to use more power than H67 as well. Compared to the DH67BL, the DP67BG used approximately 5W more when idle and playing video, though the tables turned on load with the P67 board posting a 3W advantage." I see different 5 w idle, 3w load. The graph gives the answer of...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
I have not seen any power usage comparison between H67 and P67 boards. Where did get the information that it's 2-3 times higher? I do agree on the H67-boards being a good choice, above all they're also a good bit cheaper. But I don't see the value of the 'K'-processor. It does have a better IGP (HD...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
I've changed the SP, because I think the use of my new system isn't quite clear. I don't want to overclock, maybe underclock for powersaving. the combination h67 and i5 2500K gives the possibility of playing full-HD 3d in the future. internal graphics are sufficient, with the combination I have poss...

Re: [Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 250
It has all the possibilities, but I'm not sure about the power consumption. As QuickSync is still in its (immature) infancy, I would go for any discrete modern graphics card. Moreover a 2500K on any H67 is actually a waste of money (and features). Why do I want to use quicksync, or a discrete moder...

[Question] Power usage Asrock H67M (GE) (GE/HT) & i5 2500K
I'm thinking about buying a new system. I have quite the list of wishes: Low power idle Floppy connector (Preferred) Posibility to control PC with remote (MCE) A little bit fast Outstanding HTPC possibilities I will play 1080p movies on the system, surf on internet and it will be powered 24/7 as NAS...

Well, Nice for so much reactions. It's worth the time to think about a proper system to review info. My reason for low power consumption is total costs. There is an aspect of luxury in it, though. I've bought a Intel SSD. That's just because I wanted it. But how do we talk about it? I think it is go...

Sorry to use a new post, but it's completely different: I've tried a sleeping state of the system to save power. CPU idle consumption chart
I'm searching for idle power consumption of CPU's.
Not TDP, not total system consumption.
Why? To choose a processor for a NAS/nettop/HTPC/downloadserver.
A computer that stays on night and day.

Since I can play Blu-Ray from disc, I'm guessing HDCP is working, too. Doesn't have to...if HDCP isn't working the video-stream is downgraded to 720P. But probably it works. this googled query gave some hits... Until now my choice is (still) the Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI in combination with the AMD 4850e...
