UPDATE: This is your new "500GB-platter" drive: [snip] And this is old 320GB-platter WD6401AALS. I don't see any diffeence: [snip] kal was right. Yersys has updated their original blog posting about the WD5000AAKS- 22A7B2 stating: Major edit: Contrary to previous reports, this is not a 500GB/platte...

While I can appreciate the discussion of WD model numbers and their business model, it really doesn't belong in my thread.

Does anyone at SPCR have first-hand experience with this drive that they can share?

WD 500GB single platter (Updated)

Apparently, WD has a new version of the WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue drive with a single 500GB platter . Unfortunately, they have not changed the model number to reflect the change from the multi-platter version. I was hoping that this drive would be the ideal drive: fast, large, and (of course) quiet. Ha...

The Antec Solo uses bungee cords to avoid the rubber deterioration problem. I'm sure you could use the same thing vertically as well.

I installed XP on my ICH10R system using a disc that I made with nLite which also included slipstreamed Intel AHCI and RAID drivers, so I did not need to do the F6 thing. After installation, I did not get the "safely remove hardware" icon, but the HotSwap utility mentioned solves that problem nicely...

Ciril, thanks so much for updating your post. Very excited to hear that it fit for you. I will be picking up an Accelero for my dual-slot as soon as I can!

Ciril, If you do get the Solo, please update this thread with your findings (and measurements if possible!!). Thanks! EDIT: I took some measurements of my Solo case. It's about 25.8cm from the back edge of my video card PCB to the edge of the hard drive cage . So if your measurement of 26cm is compa...

About the dual slot; I don't know if accelero s1 fits, but I can say that the default fan is really noisy. However it was easy to replace the fan with Nexus 92mm (with cable tie), which keeps the card cool enough with 12V (max 95C with renamed furmark). Maybe with Noctua's 92mm you could get even b...

If I'm understanding you correctly, this machine is going to be solely used for MythTV. In other words, the box will become a MythTV appliance. So why are you insisting on customizing the underlying distribution? And why would you care what the distribution is based on, what WM it has, custom partit...

Dave - do you mean the main hard drive casing? There a good 40mm (I'm British I'm afraid) from the end of the fins to the metal and I would say the center of my GPU core is 115mm from the back lip of the case or about 90mm from the back of the gfx card. Thanks for the measurements. 40mm is about wh...

driftscreen, if you don't mind, could you take a measurement of the gap between the Accelero and the steel mounts in the hard drive area, and also the gap between the Accelero and the PCI slot under it? I have a Solo and I'm considering buying the Accelero S1 for my Sapphire 4850 dual-slot , but it ...

I believe it would fit, since it appears to be using the same PCB as the stock cards, and there's even an outline on the PCB where the original stock cooler would have gone. So since the S1 Rev 2 fits the stock cards, it should fit this card as well. The ramsinks are very short on this card and shou...

Get an Aerobie Aeropress . Put your choice of finely ground decaf in it with some hot water (preferably 175 Fahrenheit). 30 seconds later you're done. It only takes slightly longer than making instant, but the results will be much, much better. The only decaf I've ever liked is from New England Coff...

P45 consumes less than P35. At least on the Asus models:

IMO, the huge heatsinks on the P45 must be for show only. The NB heatsink on the IP45 Pro is ridiculously huge.
