Yesterday evening I just added the second ram module to my system. It was AMD 4850E + Kingston valueram KVR800D2N5/1G on M2AVM-HDMI. Now it's 2 x KVR800D2N5/1G (in dual channel). In idle the power consumption difference is negligible, but under strees (2 memtest) I've seen it increase by about 3W. K...

Re: Where do I buy a >100 W 12 V Power Brick for a PicoPS
Another question; is the fan on the 12 V/8.5 A Power brick on mini-box.com always going to kick in at high loads (say around 100 W), or is it pretty much off all the time? I also have it and I confirm SPCR review: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article601-page3.html (page bottom). The fan kicks in a...

Re: Low power tuning overkill?
My point is, most easy way to save energy is start from the most power hungry things, like replacing all incandescent and halogen lights with fluorescents, better house insulation, switching away from oil or electric heating, driving a bicycle and leaving the car at home, etc. Already done that, I ...

You can install & run asus pc probe, then compare the values with speedfan. P.S: Sometimes two hardware monitors running at the same time "fight" for the monitoring, so maybe sometimes you'll get 0 rpm for a running fan or +6.5V on +5V line, but it's normal. Just wait a few seconds for a new sample ...

Thanks! :) I know it's just paper, but the buzz-strip might slow the fan down at lower voltage? Sure. You have to make the note just audible, but without slowing the fan. I checked the method with motherboard rpm and it seems to stay within the error range. I've measured a 80mm fan downvolted at 5V ...

Brisbane G1 steppings had the 4x multiplier, but they made the minimum 5x with the G2 stepping. No, sorry, it was just my fault. I left HyperTransport set to 1GHz. With HT set to 800MHz I can use 4x multiplier. Too bad this motherboard can't go below 0.800V... Anyway, I had not a single fail...

Fan'n'music (howto: measure rpm)
I wanted to reuse an old psu fan (the psu burned 10 years ago) as case fan, but knew nothing of it. First of all I tried the fan with 3x1.5V batteries, just to avoid burning my new motherboard or psu whether something wasn't fine with it. It started easily at 4.5V and needed 0.40mA. Classic fan. But...

I've been testing my new system a few days for stability with rmclock (m2a-vm hdmi + 4850e + picoPSU, good undervolting but crashes ). The issue seemed to be switching states. Then this topic came up. I tried crystalcpuid and I confirm that seems to solve the issue (I want to test more through...

1. It's 1.5€/l, finally reached by diesel. 2. I am happy with it. Cons: prices grew a lot, we have the feeling that everything doubled in price. We use to say that the official change 1€ = (about) 2000£ applies to salaries, while 1€ = 1000£ applies to prices. Easier to convert, isn't it? Pro...

My appreciation
Hi all, just a new user. I'm trying to update my home hardware and bumped into SPCR. It's really, really, really a good reference for newbies like me. I'm not missing (almost) any new review. Ones I'm not interested, too, you cant' tell... Seriously, I really appreciate the scientific appr...
