Re: Seasonic Platinum 860 or Seasonic X1050?
Well the new X1050 seems to be quieter than any of the old lower wattage X range. The fans off until about 400W so you can think of it as a fanless 400W PSU that isn't going to cause problems should demand occasionally go above that point. I do have 8 hard disks, a separate RAID card, and in the pas...

Seasonic Platinum 860 or Seasonic X1050?
The X1050 got such a glowing review here it's quite tempting even though it is more power than needed, and is only gold rather than platinum rated. Is there any reason to believe the 860 should be worse in any regard? Anandtech reported it had some electrical noise, though they still described it as...

Well laziness definitely doesn't pay. I bought the overpriced Zalman 770W one, and despite it having exactly the same modular connectors as the 1000W one, they have the pins in a different order, something I didn't discover until it failed to boot. God knows how much damage the reversed pins caused....

The CPUs an i7 920. Currently not overclocked but before my system started getting unstable I'd pushed it up a bit at least (without increasing its voltage). And I have a seperate RAID controller (Adaptec 5805) which pushes out quite a bit of heat, though its only getting power from the PCIe slot, s...

Low whine, high power PSU recommendations?
Hi, I bought a Zalman ZM1000-HP a bit a year and a half ago. The electrical whine was unbearable though so I followed the instructions of someone else on this forum to mod it with silicone sealant. This did work in stopping the whine, at least for a while, but it seems to have also damaged its relia...

GPU Heatsinks with vertical fins?
Hi, I was thinking of buying the Lian-Li PC-A20 case, which has a large fan mounted over the graphics cards sucking out hot air. (See here for a picture.) I though about buying one/two 4870s and cooling them with the passive Arctic Cooling S1 Rev 2 , but the black plastic bits along the top of the c...

I get chatter when it's off even when the 5v noise filter is on, but admittedly it's only really audible from very close. The chatter when it's on and under load is clearly audible above my fans and harddrives from my desk chair though. And hence is rather irritating. It does sound like it's of a si...

Zalman ZM1000-HP Problems
I recently bought a new Zalman ZM1000-HP to replace an old PSU which seemed like it was about to die and to be the first component of the new PC I hope to build in the next 6 months or so. Based on the glowing review it got here I was expecting it to be completely silent, instead the first one I bou...

There's a performance review up here.
The conclusion seems to be there's not much difference in speed between it and the Samsung, no mention of noise though.

WD Caviar Black noise levels
Has anyone tried the new Caviar Blacks? How do they compare acoustically with the Spinpoint F1s?
On the one hand they're "performance" drives which usually means noisy, on the other the improvements seem to be aimed at reducing vibration.

The new Cosmos 1000 is discussed here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=41770&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30 and there's a particularly interesting (google translated) review here: http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.presence-pc.com%2Ftests%2Fcosmos-coolermast...

Recommended CEB or EATX cases
Hi,
I'm looking for a case for a CEB size motherboard (12" x 10.5"). Some ATX cases will fit them, but I don't think the Antec P182 will (it says on their website "Up to Standard ATX (12â€
