Re: Good budget quiet case?

Pick a good cooler, mount it well, be smart with the fan selection and you should be able to pick whatever case you want. Or use the stock cooler and buy a decent Antec or Fractal case for more money.

Either way it will cost about the same in the long run.

Re: Advice on Case + PSU + HSF. Looking at NSK-3480.

I've already put it together, and the loudest thing for me is definitely the PSU fan. It buzzes a bit. That's why I want to replace it. I replaced mine with a Nexus 80mm plugged into the fan header inside of the PS. No problems after 12 months of daily 12 hour usage. For me the HDD is the loudest c...

Re: Questions about HDMI

I'm fairly certain about my answers. HDCP is Satan's implementation of DRM. 1. HDMI auto-negotiates the resolution options offered by the Display and the Device and chooses the highest available options based on criteria laid out in the HDCP protocol. Certain devices may be "capable" of sending, rec...

Re: Advice on Case + PSU + HSF. Looking at NSK-3480.

I have essentially the same build configuration but with an i3-530 and a 6400AAKS. I think the loudest thing you'll have is the rear case fan, tied with the HDD, then the PSU fan and finally the Mugen2 fan.

Re: Nexus Real Silent 120mm Case Fan

Troubleshooting time... By plugging the molex power and having the fan spin at 100% (1200 RPM) you have proven that the fan works under power. By plugging the 3 pin connector to the CHA and PWR fan connections you have proven that either those two connectors are not providing enough power or that th...

The Antec PSU has a 2 pin fan header. Not rocket science, just connect the red and black pins on the fan connector and leave the yellow one off to the side.

Re: Antec EA380D not quiet enough

I have both of these power supplies. The Antec uses a rear facing 80mm fan, the Seasonic an upward facing 120mm fan; the Seasonic is a quieter power supply. I opted to do a fan swap for a Nexus 80mm into my Antec because I case needed front/back flow in the Antec NSK-3480 with hdd suspended in an up...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build

I did a similar 3480 build with hole cutting (really poorly done with a cheap nibbler). I don't currently have an optical drive installed, but I do have a 3.5" drive suspended in the bottom 5.25" bay up top and should be able to fit an optical drive if I really wanted to. My trick was to use a diffe...

Re: Aftermarket Cooling on the HD6870

That move bodes well for the current crop of aftermarket coolers. It moves the processor further towards the front of the case/card which will give it more space between the centerline of the cooler and the rear panel connectors. I'd put money that an AC S1R2 will drop right on it without the need t...

It's an easy swap, and you don't need to run the cable to the outside either. The pins on the fan controller in the PSU are the normal size, but are 2 pins, not 3. Just plug the fan offset onto the 2 pins and leave the third one (the yellow RPM/sense) off.

If the card is dead then it's really not that risky at all. In fact it's risk reversal if he doesn't try - he may just wind up spending $200 on a new video card when he could have spent ten minutes baking his "bad" card for free.
